Anyone know why they're so reluctant to run the Cairnwell Chairlift as it's the quickest and most relaxing way up the mountain on that side of the road.

Tech issue with the chairlift. I think Alan posted about this previously but I can't find it?

BTW I saw a length of new cable on a trailer as GS this week. Perhaps it Was for this & will open soon.

There's snow fencing alongside quite a few roads in Donside. It does make a difference in marginal conditions but has little effect when the drifting really gets going.

With regard to tree planting - not sure how happy young trees will be about being continually blasted with salt spray and buried by snow clearing machinery for months on end. They would need to be pretty close to have any meaningful effect in a sensible time frame I would imagine.

Actually they need to be a reasonable distance back from the road as you want to collect the snow before it reaches the road. Google the links as Alan suggested - their are some interesting studies, mostly from the USA that I've just looked at.

the revenue generated by glenshee and braemar should mean the councils involved have dedicated snow-blowers and plougs to keep the spittal open from both sides 99% of the year

Be nice to skiers...they have enough problems already

I think the thing about keeping the road open is it takes a machine a set amount of time to dig through x amount of snow. Given only 1 or 2 machines can work at any 1 time that means even if there were 500 blowers that it would still take the same amount of time as the 1 or 2 machines..... I am sure the council workers do the best they can do but they are up against nature sometimes....

That would be true but the total time taken could be halved if it was attacked from the top at the same time. Even if they got the two tractors fitted with shovels it would make things faster. But idealy id like to see a plough based at the centre. Noy that likely to happen though.

On, saturday it looked like they had just dragged a cable off the sunnyside side from somewhere. Possibly gm?

That one I believe belongs aberdeenshire council for the braemar road/car park clearing I think, at least one of the two. Not sure who drives it though. But its not allowed past the border

Pistenbully do a pb300 that can run in summer as a kind of bulldozer, itd be interesting if it would bemifit mountain biking and the prep of tracks.... Just a thought

As for trees, buying a snow plough and doing regular shuttle runs to the spittal might be more realistic and effective. Or even get proper snow ploughs or snow blower attachments for the two tractors so the effort can be made from both ends when the road gets blocked. I know jcb have a good blower for the fast trac, not sure about john deer though, not sure the ones at gs have front pto's.

There were signs up at Glenshee around the cafe area 'No skis or boards on the building please'.

While I totally agree with this, can the management give everyone somewhere to put them? What about some racks to lean our gear on?

Folk travelling to Glenshee from the south should note that the A93 Perth to Blairgowrie road will be shut for roadworks for 2 weeks from Monday 7th March.

In addition, it looks like the M90 Friarton Bridge will have restrictions on it for the next 6 weekends.

Also worth noting, that going via A94/A923 diversion through Coupar Angus doesn't make a huge difference distance or time wise, aside from any possible increase in traffic volume. Some folks round here actually prefer that road, not as much fun to drive as the A93 though smiling smiley
