In the words of justin beiber, never say never :-\

Anyone know when this chairlifts going in? Im angling for a trip up that way in the next month or two and itd be worthwhile witnessing some of the construction though i dont think a lift of this magnitude would require a heli sad smiley

Also a rumour emerged from these forums a few weeks ago about a second additional lift, any info on that. One would assume its a confusion from a lift being overhauled.

In all seriousness they need to fix their website and shout about what their doing a bit more, then if numbers allow build a funicular from the braemar road to meal odhar. smiling smiley

it's the access gondola from some posh casino resort in greece or someplace, not a ski resort anyway. still more white than there is on the glenshee webcam right now though winking smiley

Haha, the terminals nearly as big as the hill! And that would certainly bring the crowds in, regardless to snow conditions smiling smiley

When i said funicular i meant one that goes underground most of the way up to look semi decent and largely preserve the hillside, unlike cairngorm, and once the birdie has had its babys and settles down (what closes the ski centre end of april, if there was snow they could technically open after june/july) allow a mtb track in corrie fionn and meal odhar. I can almost see it but the cost of tunneling through a hill pretty much puts the nail in the coffin, unless the eu steps in.

Whats important is that glenshee holds on to their banter, keeps the management close to the ground, and keeps the health and safety officers at bay on the opposite side of the lairig ghru. If you ken what i mean.

we can but dream at a cost-effective way of going skiing/boarding...etc every weekend

what we need is a gondola from blair, would solve road issues too! or we could chip in and buy a ex-berry bus, good excuse to be up there all day every day

surely you mean a glenshee funicular... winking smiley

I could source a current double decker berrie bus...the ride up to glenshee would be more extreme than any skiing

Be nice to skiers...they have enough problems already

did shee ever have a carpet on.

Speaking about the resort now, not the girl. Did glenshee ever have a dry ski slope?, if so why was it removed, if not, i seen a pile of the carpety stuff by the roadside on my way to braemar today. Could it be for the new lift? or could it be for a dry slope?

I think itll be for the lift but it did set me thinking...

Having a dry slope maybe at claybokie open at weekends would surely draw some interest, especially if they set up some boxes and a kicker or two smiling smiley I certainly know quite a few folk that travel to the aberdeen slope allot which is about twice the distance that gs is. As long as it was reasonably priced. it could work...

It didn't work at Glenshee and it didn't really work that well at the Lecht either. The Plastic Slope Poma was simply not long enough or interesting enough to get people to travel the distances most need to in order to reach Glenshee.

Lifting the matting from the uptrack of the Plastic Slope Poma turned out to be a big oops!

Nevis Range make fair use of their short slope from Ski School, indeed they used to run beginner classes in July and August (not sure if they still do).

CairnGorm has the only realistic chance of making a semi decent length of dry slope work, because of the numbers visiting the mountain and local area year round, plus having a sizable local / semi local population around Strathspey, up to Inverness and the Inner Moray Firth. There is no comparable facility within the Highland Council area, so it could work on CairnGorm.

was it a lot of matting or just a wee bit? There's still some bits of mat on the plastic slope, but i can't see why they would remove that now. i do remember a pile sitting there over the winter though, assumed it was for replacing on/off areas on the chairs.

if CML wont fix up an existing chair or two (for whatever reason) i can't see why they would even consider a dry slope. mind you, they do like to go about global warming at every opportunity, so maybe i'm wrong......

Valid points right enough, i caught a glimpse of it so cant really answer that question. Was by the roadside amongst all the snow canons, new fencing, chairlift parts, etc. Although theres not much use for it in the summer (unless glenshee finds a way to bring numbers in) it seems daft not to have the plastic uptrack for those drab days we occasionaly get. Having said that the plastic will be retired from its purpose of primary access lift to the cairnwell area when the new chair is put in. And will be usable as a beginner run more of the time (no ridiculous queus)

The Plastic is not a beginnners run. Fairly steep at points and very narrow. Some wankstain tried to sue Glenshee because they came a cropper on it!! I'd never consider teaching anyone on it. Often lacks decent depth meaning that the ground can show through.

I'm not sure that matting would be effective in many places at Glenshee.
