Wow - possibly the best 'action' avalanche footage I've ever seen from Scotland.

The increasing popularity of the gopro came in handy there.

The skier was lucky he was traversing back out of the line when it triggered.

Will be in the neighbourhood on Saturday so might drop in at Cairngorm for a change. Though wondering if anyone can give a guesstimation to how crowded the hill will be and what they will have open.

Did having the WWP open significantly help queueing on the ciste last weekend?

If its the same as when I was last there at the beginning of January; Cas, Ciste & Ptarmigan T-bars then I might consider Lecht simply because of cost/ski time. Thoughts?

Why the hell were they skiing such an obvious wind slab with a giant terrain trap at the bottom for added measure...

Very lucky. Hopefully they will take some courses.

This weekend is the start of the mid term week cammyammy. Expect the place to be rammed full of holiday skiers. I expect car parks to be full from 9am and lift queues to be long.

Come with TREKnTRAIL for a memorable and enjoyable outdoor experience walking or mountain biking in the wonderful Cairngorms National Park near Aviemore.

Bongo I think most schools go back on 20th but there may be some that have that week off.

Felt really warm at the summit today and sadly the silence was broken by the sound of water running under me. Still loads of snow off east of the tor but it was a bit sticky.

However the Cas was brilliant. smiling smiley Fantastic crunchy spring snow was being uncovered by the traffic.

Or ,Bongo,go to any of the other ski areas, especially Glenshee or Glencoe. They don't get queues during mid term and anyway have far more open terrain and uplift at the moment than Cairngorm.

This is to some extent true for the Western Areas, but to say that Glenshee doesn't get queues over half term is misleading, esp as more of Scotland has a full week off this year.

The Caenlochan Poma is down to uplifting about 280ppl per hour after damage caused by problems with lack of depth of parts of the track on Tuesday, the Poma is now running on spacing so that there is only one person between most of the towers at anyone time. The capacity on Meall Odhar is so inadequate that even on Tuesday afternoon the queue time was pushing 10minutes - it will be total carnage at the weekend.

Without being in the completely wrong thread.

You cant let Caenlochan put you off though at Glenshee. There is still a rope tow, 2 Trainer tows, 3 chairlifts, 12 pomas (If Glas Maol gets running) and 3 T-bars (If Carn Aosda gets running, Was getting tow hangers today) to keep you amused over half term. Bar Meal Odhar poma & T-bar I count that as a near full house for Glenshee! But true there will be a big bottle neck at Caenlochan, but those that are patient will be rewarded with good sport over the hill.

**cough** vs Cainrgorm 3 T-bars, 0.5 Pomas, 0.5 Trainer tows **cough** << Dontt take **cough** too seriously now winking smiley

That said Im sure people will still have fun at Cairngorm as well smiling smiley And to be fare its just the luck of the draw how this seasons panned out so far. Good show from CML so far this season.
