Just read on cairngorm website that the m1 Poma is open. Says they have shovelled enough snow to open it. That will help with the ques a bit

M1 Poma open after much shoveling of farmed snow (good job boys)

Good news, but why not have done this proactively before the weekend like Glencoe did with the Top Button tow a couple of weeks ago, rather than reactively on the Sunday?

Yes it was an amazing feat to get the poma open considering it was green and brown for a large part of its track on Thursday and yesterday.

They had been talking about trying to get it open this week.I'm not a snow expert but the pack was sodden on Thursday and yesterday. I wasn't there on Friday so I can't comment about its state then. From speaking to the outdoor crew on various occasions I have heard them say that to shift snow when it is sodden lets the warm air in and speeds up the thaw. I suspect that the overnight freeze probably made moving snow viable hence the poma got going today,There's so little about to move that doing it earlier might have wasted it. These are my thoughts, but obviously the guys who did the amazing work are the ones with the actual facts.

Was brilliant, skiing straight onto it from the back of three till it closed at 4.20pm. as there was no queue at all. Some pics attached, Might put some more up later as I had a 2/3rd's touring 1/3 piste day... smiling smiley smiling smiley

How busy has Cairngorm been this week end? Not heard to much about the conditions and was considering heading over there later this week?

That's some more photos up [www.winterhighland.info]

Peaches, on Saturday the tows were quite busy before and after lunch until the back of three. I was helping on the Ciste tow and there was a single line that at its worst went just round the end of the fairway fence. Over lunch I'd a couple of runs on the Cas and the queue wasn't even to the end of the gantry. For the last hour it was really quiet.
Today the ambassadors that were working said the tows were busy. I was on piste from the back of 3pm and there was no queue for the M1.

Snow was very soft on Saturday, froze overnight but was well pisted giving good skiing today.

Hope it's ok for you if you do go.

Helen

Make sure you get there in time to get a ticket. Sounds like they stopped selling tickets after a certain time today. Presume that was to keep queues to acceptable levels. Does anyone know what time that was?

Anyone got any photos of the sheiling when it was open as a restraunt back in the day? Curious as to what has changed about it. I beleive it was closed after a fire? Why was it never fully repaired? Seen that Cairngorm has opened part of it as a packed luch area which can only be a good move.
