Great to see Colin with another youtube update. Certainly proves with some of his comments that cairngorm do listen to our (winterhighlanders) views..
Happy April Ski-ing!!!
You are assuming that they read WH, the post on Ski Patrol facebook suggest they dont. Personaly I think its coincidental that any changes is coincidntal to what is stated on WH.

You've already stated that you think that [some of] the posts on WH alienate key individuals at CML.....that sits at odds with the [fact] that they do not read WH [aye right]

Kind regards

I keep forgetting it is a waist of time putting a contradictory view or opinion here.

Had a great day up at Cairngorm today. They have done a great job getting the runs open and the top bowl is well worth a ski. And at £15, a bargain.

Went touring for most of the afternoon, the sun was out, the snow was in great condition, and the views were amazing.

Good work by CMS in getting the top runs open, and with the snow coming tonight perhaps even more lifts will get open. CMS staff seemed in good spirits and the lifties were all friendly. Good feel, and great to get some more days skiing this year.

I echo everything Peaches says, and whether Cairngorm reads Winterhighland or not they were doing a brilliant job today. The Ptarmigan traverse seemed to have expanded overnight and ski patrol were busy shovelling snow on to the tracks to keep them in good shape for us sliders.

However plenty folk do read Winterhighland and several people said to me today that they had been following my reports... so here's another, of a brilliant wandering day although a bit of ptex work is now required winking smiley [www.winterhighland.info]

The track was being pisted as I was heading up in the train at 1pm.

Another great afternoon especially as the sun came out smiling smiley

The snow distribution following the overnight wind and fall, as expected, has changed a bit. Some photos here [www.winterhighland.info]

Well a slow start to the day. A 2hr drive followed by a 30-40 min delay on the funicular at ~11am. Noone told us what was going on which was quite frustrating. Not a great start must be said.

However...

After a quick warm up in the Ciste/Ptarmigan bowls, which were good but a bit slow & boring, I headed down the M1 Piste. The run from the Ptarmigan building to the Traverse has excellent well groomed cover, as does the traverse itself. The M1 is similar for the top section but most of the way down is one piste basher width. It was a great run for fast shorties and after 2 runs I was knackered. smiling smiley

Following a short interlude I went back and did it again, brilliant!

Then, for a change I headed down towards the Cas though skied most of the way down on 105 which is plenty fun if a bit thin in places. Then dropped into the Gun Barrel which is very narrow, great for shorties but a killer on the legs after a few runs. From mid-way down the Gun Barrel to the M1 Poma there is no set route and it does involve a bit of grass hopping, from the top of the Gun Barrel there is no easy route for beginners. The entrance to the M1 poma was thinning as the day progressed and was becoming tedious, I reckon they will get that sorted as plenty of big drifts about.

The Cas (run) was the pick of the day, virtually deserted and full of lovely soft snow and was nice all the way down though it narrows in places and the uptrack is pretty good too. The top bowls had good cover but were in a blizzard cloud most of the day whereas the Cas was more or less under sunshine. Blis you might say smiling smiley

Would go up tomorrow again if I could, I think probably that was the best day I've had at Cairngorm certainly this season, but possibly even over the last few years simply because of the lift served off-piste and virtually noone to share it with compared to the 20 minute queus I'm used to at CML... Awsome.

I think they will set the snow canon up tonight possibly, saw some guys working on it today, it would certainly come in handy where it is positioned now. Also saw a peice of scrappy snow fencing get plucked from the ground by a poma on the M1 and transported 50-100m down the hill. Ski patrol delt with that shortly after.

Took some pictures and videos, will upload them when I can.

If you couldnt be bothered reading that I basically had an awsome day! smiling smiley

What a day! As with cammy it was the off-piste that made it for me. A good run down the White Lady is a good run anywhere, and today it was fabulous - sketchy in places but lots of fun. Also enjoyed runs either side of the summit path down to the top station, and the Coronation Wall, especially when the sun came out at the top! So glad Cairngorm made the effort on the M1 tow track. Great start to the season. Oh...
