I think that's more or less the point that Alan was making.

Helen Thanks - so its top of the trainer tow, the snow making used to be down at the bottom. In your photo looking down, it was on the slope that rises up to the left at bottom of tow - it was a long time ago. Pass on my regards to Sandy

Yes I remember it. I think it was just off the bottom left of that picture, on the highpoint just before the slight drop, where the extended car park tow now runs. I can still recall the shriek it made, and a slight cough of ice crystals. That would have been mid 1970s ?

The FL stayed below the Summit of CairnGorm this evening, Summit temp peaked at -0.2°c at 9pm and the air temperature at the SSC Hut has fallen 1.3°c since then.

Daveski and PeterS. Here's a photo of Caingorm's original snowmaking equipment that Jamie sent me it some while back. It also shows the original'trainer tow'

For those who have only known Cairngorm with the funicular, for reference, the Scottish Ski Club hut is the building top left.

^ that's a good 'un H11lly

There's a couple of photos showing the old snow guns on the Scoop Taylor Archive on Facebook too - haven't got time to search for them right now and give a link but I remember spotting them.

Was up for a meeting this morning so decided to head up after it had finished to see what's happened to the slopes in the past two days . By the top station it was beginning to close in to I didn't venture further. Report and photos [www.winterhighland.info]

There's an amazing model appeared just inside the funicular entrance, of the car park and slopes around it. Photo doesn't do it justice.

Nice one Helen. smiling smiley

Your photo ... [www.winterhighland.info] ... of the traverse made me smile. It was just like that the first time I ever skied at Cairngorm which was one of my first ever joyful experiences of proper rattle-bang skiing. God knows what the beginners must have thought of it. tongue sticking out smiley

What is the purpose of the model? Is it a plan or purely something rubbish/aesthetic?
