Another 3 to 4 inches at the top since first report this morning.

So pretty much a foot of fresh in the top bowl with routes back to mid station passable again with care. That's an excellent result for a mid May storm. Having just watched the BBC weather looks like it should start to clear up soon and then a frost tonight to firm things up before a largely clear day tomorrow. Can you ask for more at any time of the year, let alone May !!

Make the most of it because on Sunday alot of the snow looks like running back down the hill in liquid form. Still I would expect the top basin to pull through and with another cold (snow) showery week coming up next weekend should still see plenty skiable.

Still seems to be snowing pretty heavily at mid station. So much for it clearing through by mid morning. Lets just hope it clears up by tomorrow morning.

I was getting tired of early rise and the A9 drive required for the gorm after last Monday but then I think about the sense of injustice in February and March and I'll certainly be doing it again tomorrow. At least at this time of the year its light both ways.

Doesn't look like they're planning to open M1 tomorrow though (at least from latest update)

Looks like quite a lot more snow than forecast which is great. What isn't so good is that the M1 doesn't appear scheduled to open so what ever is wrong with it doesn't seem to have been fixed today.

This isn't good. Could be quite a big turnout tomorrow and just relying on the train isn't going to be great for queues and fast access to the snow.

With a 2 hour drive up from Dundee I have to say that the lack of the M1 is putting a bit of a dampner on things. It's no use having great snow if you can't get to it quickly, or often enough!

looks like Alan was up there today so I'm sure he will have news on his return.

Lets hope someone just forgot to update rather than the fault or damage being worse or having to wait for parts etc. That would be a real pain.

edit - note that Cas T bar is also not shown as scheduled to run and we know that it is available and will probably still run from the top of gunbarrel.

The M1 Poma was derailed off the top bullwheel yesterday by someone trying to get a slingshot round the bullwheel to reach the Top Station against the strong Easterly winds. The cable was back on by close this afternoon, but fitters were still working on it and the rope may have suffered damage that prevents the lift running. There will hopefully be another update later with the latest news.

Coire Cas uptrack was getting pisted at the end of the Day and it can certainly run.

Back to the M1 Poma, this is the second time this season major damage has been done by deliberate mis-use - the rope was brand new in January after the same thing happening just before Christmas. sad smiley

Crazy.

Is that not preventable by having a steep ramp of snow before the bullwheel to make it obvious to everyone that you get off?! Or maybe some sort of electronic detection could register someone skiing beyond the exit point and trigger a shut-down?

Edit:

CML have posted this Facebook update ...

End of day update... and the snow just keeps coming. We have had over a foot of fresh snow over the last 18 - 24 hrs, and it is still chucking it down!! As a result it is now possible to ski back to the mid platform via first 2 zig zags then on to the gunbarrel section of the Cas track. It is a similar story for the M1 and Lady pistes, although there are still a few rocks lurking, so go with care. Amazing cover in the top bowls, and the team will be in early to get the Shred Park reshaped for the freestylers. The M1 poma should be ready for first thing, after an amazing effort by the engineering team. We intend to run the Ptarmigan, Ciste,Polar and M1 lifts, with the train doing middle upstops. We may run the Cas from the gunbarrel if the demand warrants it.
Who knows if it keeps snowing there could be top to bottom riding available!
Facillities opening from 8.30am and first train at 9.00am.

Are you sure we havent missed out a month or 2 over the last year or so? This is just weird, but epic as well smiling smiley

Re the M1: I dont like the M1 personally, partly because I dont like the off-loading area as you come off and sometimes have to push to get anywhere. But maybe I'm too fussy. The problem is folk arnt clued up as others about the damage that can be done by doing certain things. But the M1 does apear to be a bit problematic. No coincidence.

It is bizarre that we are sitting here in MID MAY with a foot of fresh waiting on the upper reaches of the mountain tomorrow. It is even more bizarre when you consider that there was nothing there at all in March which should have been be the peak of snowcover. I'm certainly can't recall this much fresh snow falling this late in the year since I started boarding back in the mid 90's. Anyone else know the last time we had such significant and consistent late season falls of snow?
