Might be an idea to do it as a group rather than a page that can be liked (although that's useful for sharing it publically later).

Loving the ideas guys, and itching to get the contour Hd out this season, got some pretty sweet stuff from France last year but mostly POV so been messing about with new mounts and angles on the bike this summer and the footage is much better for editing, the windshield mount sticks like shit to the board and has a panorama field of vision, and the handlebar mount goes well on ski pole. All I need now is the skills to showboat

Coool, sounds awsome.

As long as your having fun thats all that really matters, thats what we want the film to recognise. Dont worry if you cant backflip a cornice, we want to focus on FUN FUN FUN!

This week is quiet for me so Im going to look into the logistics of all this (like how we share video for editing). Its not unfortuneatly as straight forward as using youtube to host it all as, from experience, once you download it from youtube and get it edited you lose tonnes of quality. So we need some way of sharing unedited and, to a degree, uncompressed footage. A bit of a headache but if anyone has any thoughts please share.

Oh and if everyones contributing allot of video then it goes without saying that we will need a lot of space.

Cheers

Hi, this is interesting having been involved in a few similar projects before I am wondering what you plan to do different form say Jamie's "wake"/"on the shoulders of giants" ( [www.highland-instinct.co.uk] )(which I enjoyed very much) or my "In Pursuit"( [www.youtube.com] )? Both these films attempted and I would say succeeded in showing off some of the best Scotland has to offer, both were shown at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival so also attempted to show off the conditions to an interested public. Sounds like a good project you have going just wondered in what way you plan on doing it differently to change the perception of Scottish snow?

For sharing footage i would suggest all those collaborating to buy a memory stick as decent quality footage takes up GB of space and email file sharing sites etc take ages to upload download to etc. Who ever is doing the editing could get the stick posted with the footage and then could post the stick back. Youtube etc compresses the footage and is a no goer. Normal email attachments are limited in size.

I too very much enjoyed both.

Firstly, any suggestions are very welcome. Its a colaborative Film; everyones ideas/content will be very welcome.

My suggestion is to get, a little, more personal with at least some of the riders. Be it them giving a 3 minute commentry of themselves doing what they love or an interview style feature. I was partly inspired by 'the art of flight', thatll give you an idea of what Im thinking.

On a different note.

4shared offer a free acount where users can upload up to 10gb of content to share. Unleess people have a problem with this it could be a uselful tool for sharing, upload your video on there and then share the link on a thread. The difference with this to youtube is that you are directly downloading the file in its fullness. Thoughts?

Cheers

Have you ever tried uploading and downloading 10gb to one of those websites(especially a free one). Try it and see how long it takes, A first class stamp would be quicker than waiting for my broadband connection.

Sorry didnt see your last post until now, I know what you mean. It also would be far from ideal if you dont have unlimited broadband.

There may be a few editors thats the only thing.

But I like your idea.

Hows this for an idea. I have a redundant 500gb removeable hard drive that I could put into service. What we could do is set up a daisy chain circle type system so 1 person adds their footage, then sends to the next person where they add theirs, then they send it to the next person, etc. Then any editors can take copies of the footage as it circulates and some of us can take backups to ensure we dont lose everything. It could work quite well as long as we all promise to keep it circulating smoothly and not to nick it or delete any of the files. Thoughts?

You could also set up a box.net account(s) they have a 50GB deal (FREE for life!) on at the moment - [blog.box.net]

Everyone could upload their own files and share a particular folder.

----

Amazon have a 5GB FREE cloud storage worth looking into and there is DropBox which is good but only 2GB.

----

This is all online so doesn't really help people with slower broadband but those could use a flash drives, external HD.

Happy to offer my services to help edit all the footage for you and to perhaps do a couple of days dedicated filming up at Glenshee (just moved to Balirgowrie)? www.morroccomedia.com
