backcorries - your long-shot of the Braveheart with that lone skier is the best photo of that terrain I've ever seen. Great set of pics, in all - thanks very much.

Cheers David glad you like the photos, the weather made it easy and the amazing snow cover in the Backs, not sure the weather will be as nice on Friday when Braveheart Chair is scheduled to run for the first time this season. smiling smiley

The weekend may be looking mild but if we get the vis Summit Gully will be fun and with Braveheart running no leg breaking hikes out. smiling smiley

Does that mean your up for a slide at the weekend Stevie, it was good to see Col again midweek not seen him for ages.

Hey Brian very interested in your secret stash not sure I will be able to leave my camera in ma pocket but I will Try... winking smiley

The wind is very light at the moment and very interesting it went from West to North to East in the space of two hours from midday with the summit temps at 3.2 °C.

I hope it stays mild through into the weekend to stop the Backs from freezing up after this mild spell then from Tuesday it looks like we will pick up the Northerly winds with snow ready for an epic weekend the following week...

I can dream, sometimes dreams come true. smiling smiley

Braveheart Chair scheduled to run on Friday for the first time this season, reports are coming in that the snow is pretty saturated and sticky with the drizzle and mild temps.

SAIS Avalanche report for the period 18:00HRS Thu 9/2/2012 TO 18:00HRS Fri 10/2/2012

The snowpack will continue to thaw and consolidate. However, instabilities will remain on mainly steep North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Conices will remain prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Out of interest is the Braveheart ever known to operate mid-week (assuming favourable conditions) or is it likely to be Fri/Sat/Sun only? I'm hoping to head North in about 2 weeks time (assuming the snow holds...). I'm considering doing a circuit taking in all 5 centres if I make it up, but would like to get a few full length runs over the back at Nevis if I can.

From the Nevis Range website:

Back Corries: Wingers was open on Friday afternoon along with Braveheart lift. Snowpack mainly soft but sticky on the lower section. Lower traverse complete to Alpha drive. Braveheart planned to operate for advanced skiers and boarders conditions permitting over weekend and through next week.

So they are planning to run through the week...smiling smiley

Thanks. Are half term holidays this week? I suspect that would make them more likely to want to open the Braveheart mid-week. I suppose the only way I'm really going to find out if they plan to continue mid-week opening is to email and ask.

Cheers for all the updates poste so far! Great to see Braveheart has been running.

How were the back corries today? Was there a Q for the chair? And one more random question - how does Braveheart do on a strong NW wind - thinking about Monday etc if Sunday does not work out.

Cheers!

Nevis usually is OK when the wind is west of North through North (providing it's not absolutely ripping!) and the bulk of the mountain should make the back more sheltered, but the strongest wind is likely to be along the ridge line of the back corries.
