Back Corries
Date Posted: 17.39hrs on Fri 25 Nov 11
So winter has finally arrived and the backs are filling up nicely.

[backcorries.files.wordpress.com]

Thought I would start a Back Corrie thread to keep people updated on the back country areas around Nevis Range, hopefully you will also add your knowledge to share information for all.

You can visit the Back Corrie Blog at [backcorries.wordpress.com] but I will also keep you updated here as well.

Hope we get a winter like the last two years. smiling smiley

That is pretty - just hoping the Braveheart runs this year more frequently giving me a good reason to go west.

I think Nevis Range will be keen to get it spinning quickly this year I hope.

Last year I was in the Backs most of the time Braveheart was running and it was dead, some days maybe 5-10 folk, on the busiest days 30- 40 people in an area 4 times the size of the front of the hill, it was sweet fresh tracks most of the day.

First drop in the Backs last year was on the 15th of January in at Chancer where the snow seems to build early in the season.

The strong winds we have been getting are already shifting the snow into the Backs so hopefully over the next few weeks with a few freeze thaw cycles it could load up pretty quick.,

Good video!

Yes the backs are fantastic - 2010 hard to beat though, for me at least esp with the Braveheart running. grinning smiley

Sweet pics Mark, thanks for sharing. Looks like the backs are filling in really nicely. Given the forecast and wind direction there should be a solid base in there by this time next week. Might even be enough for some upper mountain lifts to run next weekend weather permitting.

Oh and loving the Wordpress theme for the blog this year thumbs up

Yep, they are stunning. smiling smiley

Chris, I wouldn't have thought any upper lifts could run at Nevis until Gondola servicing is completed mid-late December ?

For posting images, all you need to do is put the tags around the image url like so ...

Which is this image with Braveheart chair looking so lonesome ...

My understanding is that there were no major jobs needed this year, just routine maintenance.

Remember Nevis was open for 4th Dec last year so if there is enough snow and a suitable forecast (and that's a big if) I would think they will open for weekend 10/11 Dec, time will tell.

Yes the gondola will begin daily operations on this date but 'if' conditions are suitable for operation the weekend before I suspect they would try and open. I don't know for sure, just a hunch going on previous years.

Right now if the latest GFS runs were come off I think it could be as good as a 50/50 chance lifts will spin next weekend.

Thanks for your comments Chris thought I would change the Wordpress theme this year for a change glad you like it, also thanks moffatross for the help on posting images they look so much better than a link.

It would be great if Nevis Range was open for the weekend 10/11 Dec if the weather plays ball but there is nothing on there site that says they will open earlier where in past seasons they have said they would if conditions allowed.

Maybe Nevis Range could confirm, will you open earlier if conditions allow?

Dumped again with very little winds certainly should have helped the front of the hill...smiling smiley
