Was up today. Access chair only. The run available wasn't great but it was better than nothing. Top section was nice. Steeper section was very rough. Very narrow, rutted and worn at the bottom.

Didn't bother hiking up but the upper mountain looked excellent.

Hiked up to the top in the afternoon. Although visibility was very poor at the time we were there the snow was plentiful and rather lovely. If there had been tows to the top and some grooming today would have been epic.

Very impressive cover for the time of year, but a wee bit of hyperbole with regards the 'as good as late February cover' comment. Yup, it's good, but let's not get carried away!

Firefly - I don't know if you've been up the hill yet, but the top half (particularly the main basin) is loaded in a way I have only seen a couple of times previously.

^ Without doubt there is a very encouraging amount of early season snow thumbs up.

Hopefully the snow is now here to stay - though its not 'loaded' yet.

When the Main Basin fills properly the snow fences next to the tow track and rocks in the foreground disappear. At present there is still a distinct camber on the main basin - but towards the middle or end of the season (even in an average winter) it becomes flat. Will need another 10 to 15 feet of drifted snow for that to happen. Some winters, such as 2008, the haggis trap totally disappears.

Given that pic is from Sunday or Monday then I reckon they'll have got another 3-4ft of drifted snow since that was taken!

certainly not regular occurrence for Glencoe to be able to open in December.

Either way its a great bonus for Andy and the team to get things turning this early smiling smiley

Lets keep our fingers crossed that the wind only piles on more snow tonight and doesn't do any damage to the lifts or the power.

Power went back of at 1.30pm today, lets hope it doesn't take 5 days to re-connect us again.

Snow has continnued to pile in today with around 10 inches of new snow in the carpark by around 2pm today.
