Was there yesterday as well, great day and the afternoon showers didn't seem to put anyone off.

Lots of fresh today, snow above the top of access all day but by the end of the day rising temps meant light rain from the plateau down however radar shows some more fresh coming in this evening - just a couple of cms.

Good day at Glencoe today. Interesting conditions to begin with but softened through the day. Quite bright considering the cloud.

Don't see them being ready for a while yet
Still only 2 on site and still sitting on their delivery pallets!

Coe today was firm. Very firm actually. There has been a considerable loss of snow since Sunday. The only exit from Main Basin was via the gully with the tow in it. Grumpy would have been very happy. Thin tow tracks meant only one rider at a time on the T bar.

Some parts were thin, and there has been noticable slumping of the surface where the snow over streams has collapsed.

The coe has taken a beating with the recent rain. As tonights cold front goes through we should be back into snowy territory with a fair bit expected Wed/Thurs. Hopefully enough to open at weekend (wind permitting!)
Maybe more rain/sleet/snow fri/sat, but looking milder at present.

Anyway. Main point. Is it possible to relocate the SSC Hut Camera to a better position/angle so that we can see one of the main snow areas? All this camera does is paint a more negative impression of the existing snow as there are always rocks and grass in the image.

What's this?What's this?What's this?

Short answer regards the SSC hut is not really, plus it receives a lot of traffic year round as a scenic camera and I get plenty emails if it goes down - let alone remove it!

It would also be unpopular with regulars who like it for gauging new snow fall, all the main snow fields are covered by the Access Camera's Zooms and a work around is in the pipeline to get around the terminal damage to the phone lines up the hill.

When you have a ski area where the skiing takes place in deep natural gullies and snowfields, bare ground between the runs is the norm, there is a problem with too many people believing the perception that if it's not all white the conditions are crap - but if you removed the webcams, that would be even more damaging.

When the webcams were combined with much more frequent photos from Glencoe in the Pix from the Slopes in 2010 as I was on site regularly - it showed that actual photos of the snowsports on offer at a given time helps people interpret what the webcams are showing in a much more positive light.

The camera from the bottom of the Main Basin T-bar was to be relocated for showing the new beginner area, alas the hut it was in blew away!!

Anyone know how the main basin is looking after this thaw? Hopefully a decent base still left in areas?

Skiercorn,

The Main basin is looking OK as are most of the main gullies on the mountain. However all the uptracks are now broken but it wouldn't take much to have us fully operational again.

Heartbreak to lose all that snow.
Though have seen much less at the end of some December's.
Gully lines still got remains of a good base. 10-20cm on a west wind and the white corries would be good to go once more I reckon...

Doesnt look too bad on those photos and that base should be pretty resillient by now, looks like they have had a fair bit higher up today and radar looking promising at the minute, all is not lost!

Should be around or near -3 on summit now and with the rain radar showing lots of activity it could be looking good for frid if this weather continues tomorrow
