solar powered T bar
Date Posted: 09.32hrs on Sat 3 Dec 11
The rather isolated resort of Tenna in switzerland is claiming to have installed the world's first solar powered T bar. Pictures with German text at [www.skilift-tenna.ch]

They are estimating that the lift will require 21000 kwh per annum to run, but that the cable suspended panels will generate 90000 kwh (I've no idea of the revenue that would generate from feed-in tariffs in the UK context)

Interesting idea, though Id have my doubts if used in Scotland.

However...

One untapped resource near Scottish slopes is Hydro power. There are oodles of streams and burns. Why not setup a number of small hydroelectric plants. You wouldnt need much of a reservoir but you could always use it for Snow making. It would be slightly expensive but over a long time it could save allot of money powering the place. You can get turbines that are 99% efficent.

I think CML were looking at small water turbines as an option for power, not sure what happened.
