Allenheads has finally entered the fray, skiing Sat and Sun last weekend. The website doesnt seem to be updated that much but their facebook page is.

Council cuts hit Pennine Skiing!

Normally my biggest gripe is road clearance by Cumbria CC on the B6277 but unfortunately Durham CC is going down to Cumbria's level rather than the other stepping up. Its not that the contractors do a bad job they really are excellent but looking at this if we get to the stage the snow blower is needed it might not be sent. It could leave the last 4.5km to Harwood uncleared and its another 3km further on to Yad Moss.

There's a double page picture of Weardale (just realised I hadnt put that!) in the current Whitelines. Near the back in the gallery section - shows the sunny side of the valley (Chapel Fell Top / the hill you can see in the club's webcam picture). Ah if only we'd had proper winters all the way from the 80's there might even have been a tow there. Since there isnt, you got to hike it to get it.

Yad Moss have said they are go for the Saturday. From facebook page - season tickets only non holders will be turned away.

Skiers / boarders on Weardale webcam at the mo so there is some sport to be had in the Pennines. It would be nice to get a re-charge of snow this weekend but looks less likely the closer we get to the weekend.

Pennine full house for Sunday - all four clubs going for opening. Spent most of the day at Weardale with a quick social call to Yad Moss at the end of the day. The Weardale facebook group suggests around 200 club members turned up today, Harwood looked busy - for Harwood - and Yad Moss looked like there had been a lot of cars parked up. Lots of people enjoying the Pennine Snow even if club fields are showing some skill in avoiding snow fall. What's London need snow for anyway, they've got olympic disruption to moan about.

Some pics from the Harwood website:

Going to do a proper Weardale public report and flickr photo group for Weardale tomorrow - the short version is relaxed fun on good but thin snow. Returning to club members only meant queques were never mental, people came and wnent through the day and nothing got badly skied out. But - can some one catch the F1 mole?

Weardale and Yad Moss have both put on the facebook pages they are going to open tomorrow - 4th April. Wouldnt be surprised to see Allenheads go for it but Harwood might now be into nesting season restrictions. Best check websites first.

Good day apparently according to the website. Tomorrow should be good first thing as the snow freezes up overnight . Skiing probably won't last till the weekend however.

Great effort to get things up and running so quickly today I think. Hope people enjoy themselves up there again tomorrow.

Great afternoon at Yad Moss. Blue sky, snow and comfortably warm.
Big ‘thank you’ to the team for keeping the place running (the mud & snow tow track was a bit alarming on a board - but your efforts were really appreciated).
The snow on the runs was surprisingly good. Really worth the trip.
