Had the T-bar been running it would have encouraged lapping of the red beside the Caenlochan Poma, which as far as I could tell wasn't happening because of the big poma queue, but the simple fact is for the number of people who arrived on Sunday there wasn't enough cover. Racetrack was being used for racing, that added to queues on the Cairnwell T-bar, Butchart's is basically all green, not enough snow for Carn Aosda or Glas Maol.

Running the Meall Odhar Poma would have probably encouraged even more overcrowding on Coire Fionn as the MO red wasn't open and the skiable route to Fionn Poma 2 was unenjoyable

Later in the afternoon the Cairnwell Chair was opened, which quickly had large queues of it's own

I'm a happy bunny, we had a great day on Sunday. Despite that minor telemarking mishap that happened while in front of Simon's camera..!
The resort is making the best use of limited snow and making a whole lot of people very happy; long may this continue.

Yeah its a tilt shift effect I've done on a few photos though wanted to do a good one of the ski centre facilities/car park for a while. That one was a bit of a practice run, going to do another much better one when I get the chance. Would of liked more natural light but he Cairnwell got in the way.

Heres one of my best ones using that effect from ages ago, not perfect but I like it.

Work In Progress from today, trying to photoshop out the smudges.

Havnt done a report on today yet. Basically it was like yesterday only more sunny, a cloudless blue sky and more importantly a bit quieter!

Coire Fionn was great in the morning. Good for nice carvy turns though best enjoyed with sharp edges. Still some soft in by the snow fences if you want to do some shorties. Didnt do the off-piste bit on the opposite side of the lifts but yesterday I enjoyed it as a an advanced skier.

Tom Dearg was great for beginners/intermediates. Sunnyside was OK though the piste between the pomas & chairlift is not adviseable at all for beginners/intermediates at present.

Didnt make it up into Butcharts but did get last run down the Tiger which was brilliant. Yesterdays traffic broke up the hard snow and some moguls are starting to appear, really my favourite run of the day & the first Black of the season for me. Really Reall really enjoyable.

Main car park section was nearly half full. Glad to see them doing proper business again.

Noticed they had new big piste maps out on some of the buildings. Which got me wondering: Why have they stopped using the illuminated boards around the base which showed what lifts were opened? Would be a nice touch.

Didnt see much going on regarding closed lifts.

Rare day today, Will be next up Thursday.

I would replace them with a big TV showing the website report page. You can put up a lot more information and it doesn't need to be physically changed if you build a new lift.

whistler's system is very good, traffic lights for closed, openning within...min and green for open

allows you to time moving to newly openned areas, rather than standing waiting

Back in the day thats (kind of) what Glenshee had; Red for closed and green for open. I also think it would be a good idea to have it website based as well for newcomers. Have the piste map with red/amber/green dots on all the lifts. You could combine the webcam(s) in it as well or am I getting too carried away.

Re TV screens. They already have them in the cafe and ticket office. More would be welcome though.

forgive me if this has already been stated,
But why is Meall odhar poma and sunnyside chair not running?
I presume cairn aosda and glas maol arent running due to lack of snow
thanks ben

I'd guess its due to lack of demand mid-week, as it was spinning on Sunday.

Meal Odhar Poma doesnt have the snow yet, bit of snow farming might be enough though. Especially with that new fangle snow blower attachment. Sunnyside chair doesnt usually run during the week as it requires two lifties and the adjacent poma(s) together can run with one, and can adequately shift the normal mid week numbers.

not enough snow for Meal Odhar poma, I looked at it on Sunday and uptrack has quite a few bare patches

cairn aosda - looks way to thin cover at the top, its very rocky up there

glas maol: I suspect this is due to not enough snow depth on burn courses, so snow bridges liable to collapse. there is certainly enough snow on the uptrack, we skinned up part of it. and the run along the top of ridge has plenty snow.

IMHO - There is a big clue with Carn Aosda - no bars. If the lift could turn, I am pretty sure it would have turned enough to put the bars on. That tells me the issue with the bull wheel is still there. Also a groomer was at the top wheel all day on Sunday.

The summit track along towards Butcharts will almost certainly be complete - it usually is, even if the face is bare. The black down the front face looks too thin given the rocks underneath, but the red run from the shoulder looks skiable but thin to a groomer width or more.

Carn Aosda would not add much quality just now anyway, but I don't think its a lack of snow that is keeping it closed.

Sunnyside Chair has just about the thinnest over on the whole area just now so with enough staff to run 17/18 lifts they are probably best used elsewhere. My guess is it would not take much more to get MO and GM running - either a little snow from the east, and/or enough time for Glenshee to move some snow around.

So 4 or 5 runs have marginal snow, the other 30 odd are really good!
