What a difference the Baddoch chair makes though...

It was fantastic to see the ski area from a new vantage point high on the lift.

I think everyone else has been put off by the webcams that can't see the snow.

Three good point there.

I was surprised how the new chair changes your impression about easy access to the snow & the cafe on the hill. - And yes, on the download in particular, you get a different view of the centre which although not the main purpose, it was interesting at the end of the day to see that.

And yes, the webcam does not show how much good skiing there is on those Cairnwell & Butcharts slopes. - I don't know how you could relocate to improve that view of the snow.

Good news this morning is that they report "2-3 inches of fresh snow" which has improved the runs. Just waiting for a webcam update to show this.

A cold week ahead for snowmakers if they are on the case, plus chance of snow showers. But likely no big snow dumps till at least a week from now.

Perhaps they could position the webcam somehow on top of the Cairnwell cafe? Where you can see the (more snow sure) race tracks and offer a better zoom of the park. Also just seeing snow linking the baddoch to the two other lifts might be enough encourage people a bit.

they're on the case, fan guns were set up for friday night, but it didn't get cold enough, should be good to go as soon as the temp drops though. maybe using the guns to fill in the area in front of the webcam will give a better impression smiling smiley

Neither it has. Sat Broadband must be down again. The clouds & hills around Glenshee looked promising though and its been snowy lower down as well so heres hoping to a healthy amount of fresh snow.

Yes frustrating that we can't see the improvement in conditions due to snow showers last night & today. - Although to be fair I'm not free to get up the hill anyway, it's just curiosity.

Talking with patrol on Saturday, I would also recommend allowing patrol to write the snow report updates.... although some of the terms used may not be strictly technical terms, or indeed physically possible. winking smiley

Looks like a chance of snow showers making it inland from the east coast next couple of days. Still not clear what the prospects are for next weekend. Whether it'll stay cold/calm or get a bit stormy.

Without benefit of webcam, this is my estimate of conditions, based on having been there on Saturday:

Glenshee reports 2-3 inches fresh snow overnight, plus forecast shows light snow showers from North Sea coast. - So I'd say there is more snow than when I was there on saturday, and it's been cold up there so it won't have reduced. Ground was well frozen at weekend.

Based on that, you can expect Cairnwell Tbar runs (Blue & Red tracks) will be in good condition. The runs off the Butcharts Tbar & Access Poma will also be in good shape. - That's the least you can expect.

On saturday there was no walking neeeded between those runs, and I expect it's only got better since then. Possible to ski off the Baddoch chair onto the Cairnwell Tbar... and you're away.

Went for a wee walk over to Tom dearg on Saturday, that's also complete (run & uptrack) and in great shape, cluny not bad either. Just needs snow on sunnyside for access. I'd assume coire fionns good too, but meall odhar kinda bare.

also just wondering, any one know why on the glenshee website it says baddoch chairlift 2? the '2' being the question?
Is this a mistake or are they planning a second chair?

Its really Meal Odhar/Caenlochan thats holding everything back I think. The sunnyside chair could be doing downloads just like the Baddoch. Having a Meal Odhar chairlift would solve this problem entirely.

what a good point, if we had a chair lift at meal odhar and moved the poma round the back of Caenlochan.
This would also remove conjestion with more passanger capacity and a faster lift,
and if we had a lift at the back of Caenlochan we woul d be able to get to that great gully much easier
