is this because of lack of coverage or the storm damage means there needs to be some work done?

.... and Cairnwell. - So that's fair.

From the webcams I'd guess that there is more that you could hike or skin out towards from the Cairnwell.

I think its largely to keep the workload of the groomer/maintainance crew plus ski patrol to a manageable level. Remember these lifts have to be de-iced, groomed, and fine tuned. There may also be a few derailments to correct. Also they need to give seasonal staff a fair amount of notice.
Though there was quite a storm up there, it appears Glenshee came through without too much trouble.

web cam looks so much better than a week ago, does look like a few earn your turns hiking on offer

cairnwell will make the day worthwhile for paying intermed/advanced

season ticket holders...not bad for the first day and getting cobwebs out of the skiing/boarding muscles

shame new chair not ready (assume transport guys havent certficated it yet)

may even try both sat and sunday...muscles dependant

Be nice to skiers...they have enough problems already

Cool, will probably give Glenshee a shot tomorrow. Anyone else thinking of going from Edinburgh and looking for a lift or to share petrol?

Just in...

Had to pack it in before last lift as knees were taking a battering.

As a first day of the season that was an epic days skiing. Limited to just claybokie, dink dink, plastic and the cairnwell though Butcharts access I beleive is ready to open tomorrow.

My favourite run was the far race track (not the bunny run). Complete with hard yet not too hard snow it was perfect for nice carving turns all the way to the bottom. Blue skies/Broken cloud all day with extremely good visibility and minimal wind. They were beginning to close at 15:45.

On piste snow was hard but very good. Off piste there was stashes of powder along snow fences but it was largely very hard. A good base though for whats to come.

From sunnyside and beyond more snow is needed yet for them to open. Maybe that snow will come this week?

The staff were all very cheery and everyone I spoke to was very happy with what was on offer, If it was much busier queuing would have become tedious.

The new chair looks brilliant and the unlaoding ramp is much better than expected and drops skiers/boarders exactly where they need to be. They were putting more chairs on today and I heard by word of mouth that they are waiting for a motor to arrive for it. They have a deisel engine on it at the moment that I think is just temporary. Dont quote me on that one though.

Walking past the garages you could see a new very shiny pisten bully 600 getting prepped for work. smiling smiley

They were busy clearing the car park of snow when I left, looks like they are expecting more people tomorrow.

I will submit a proper report later, But I think a cuppa tea is in order. Absolutely knackered. All part of getting the legs back smiling smiley

Not where I was mate

In any case I had allot of fun today and I didnt come across anyone who didnt feel the same way.

For a season starter, it doestn get much better. Sounds like we had better luck than Cairngorm.

dont know what planet you live on

your lies are obviously aimed at harming the numbers who choose to visit glenshee tomorrow

this forum prides itself in acurate reports about cover and conditions, you do the forum an injustice

most of the open runs had 1 - 2 feet of groomed packed powder that had gone through freeze thaw and is the start of a base, yes there are thin areas due to the effects of the wind but nothing along the lines you are hinting at with your 9 words of innacurracy

were you sacked from the news of the world, as you seem to be able to take a truth turn it around and make it appear as if you have some expert knowledge the rest of us lack
