Another great day. Blue sky n calm:-)

Not much in way of queues. Snow plentiful with patches of grass poking through on one run. A lot more powder off piste esp cairnwell t bar area. Plenty snow in park area.
Carn aosda t bar run was being 'corduroyed' later in afternoon.
All in all a good relaxing day:-)

Aint it fun!

As snowflo said above, a great day with no wind & blue skies..
What was open was in good nick, especially as the pisters kept corduroying all day long smiling smiley Loads of fun with lots of natural features to help you get airbourne. Some great consolidated drifts around & snow as far as you can see. Can't be long until they open out more terrain. Great for mid-December!

'mon the snow!

Does anybody know whether any more runs are likely to be open at the weekend?

Matt, I have been keeping an eye on Glenshee every day. They have progressively been opening lifts since the begining of the week and are now up to 11 out of 21.

Maybe YJ can tell us what the situation is like over the back? If the conditions are good Glenshee I am sure will open up a few more but there is not more snow forecast.

Thanks Roscoeh

Thaat's pretty much what I was thinking. Might still try and get up there though and loosen up the old ski legs!

Caenlochan!!!! You should defintitely go Matt! That is one of my favorite runs, spent one happy day just lapping both side of the poma. Never got bored.

Can't get up till maybe the 23rd Dec, hope we get a couple more cms before then.

Late report, I was up on Thursday skiing & just drove through on way home today. The cairnwell and Butharts areas have filled much better than I hoped. And grooming has been first class. Red track off Cairnwell was prob best fenced run. Hiked carn aosda for last run of day on fresh cord surfaces. smiling smiley

There is scope to ski outside the fences, and I guess more so in Coire Fionn which I think will be good, judging by other east facing slopes being well filled. - I popped over to loch vrotachan which required some route selection due to wind drifting. But I think touring slopes will be very good if they were in Lee of last weeks west winds.

Can't upload pic from this phone. Will try later just to show general cover west of cairnwell.

Good first outing of the season today, and there's already a pretty good covering of snow on the runs that were open.

The wind was strong all day, and seemed much higher than forecast. There was also very flat light in the morning, but just before lunchtime the sun started to come out, and we had a few patches of blue sky in the afternoon. Unfortunately on sunny side there weren't any lifts beyond cluny operating (when we were over there), but well done to Glenshee for getting a number of runs in good shape so early.

Great to get a day in before Christmas, and fingers crossed there'll be more snow over the festive break to tempt us back!

According to one of the Lifties, the new chairlift was due to have its motor fitted today, and then it needs to be signed off before use.

Today at glenshee i could not believe how vicious and strong the wind was! The forecast on the site said 10mph winds. Im usually accepting of any conditions, i was surprised.

At top of cairnwell t bar, i turned right and was walking on the spot! When i got to top of first piste down i had to sit at a peculiar angle on hill to get my board on, so as not to have a frozen face by time i stood up. However, the run conditions were good.

I also was on butcharts access poma and sunnyside, wind still a problem although a little less so.

A lot more people today.

I still had a good day but my skill level took a dive and i was pretty cr#p. I think some tiredness has built up over past week. Gotta' get my fitness level up:-)

Yes glenshee staff always working hard to get things going for us:-)

Aint it fun!

Hi

Good day at Glenshee today, my first of the season. Sunnyside, racetracks, butcharts and the gully all good (gully was best I have seen for a while). Someone told me that the Ceanlochan opened for a short while before the wind got up. Alas I missed it. I think the wind scuppered any chance for the Cairnwell Chairlift.

V.V windy and bloody cold on the tops. Calmed right down now (in CP!) though and temp in CP: -4C

I note that there might be quite a bit more open tomorrow. There were bashers at top of Meall Odhar, and also on the lower Tiger.
