From the 4pm webcam posting looks like the runs are filling in nicely! Claybokie half fence deep and a piste machine on Sunnyside.. Great news, looks like they'll be opening soon.

'mon the snow!

Took a gamble and headed up early doors yesterday in time for the snow gates opening.

Heaps of snow in some places - and a little more sparse in others, but still had a good day, despite the best efforts of the wind / whiteout conditions higher up.

Just back from a a couple of hours at Glenshee.

For me it was fine though for others I understood it was a bit of an irritation. Visibility was good though every couple of minutes a sudden gust of wind blew ALLOT of snow up and, it goes without saying, there is allot of drifting. They were only running sunnyside 2, and sadly, not 1 as it was really quite busy at times. I beleive this is because of some enormous drifts on the uptrack meaning ther e wasnt room for both to be spinning. It also meant the pomas were not getting blown into towers.

The cairnwell T-bar was open though was closed mid day I assume due to the wind. But they made the most of an oppertunity and had a piste basher out there on those runs the rest of the afternoon.

Seen at least 3, possibly 4 piste bashers out packing the drifting snow down, especially on the race track. At least 1 came over from Meal Odhar so hopefully they are preparing to open that area up.

The butcharts T-bar I think opened when the cairnwell clsosed to try and reduce queing.

Oh and they are hoping to open 17/23 lifts if conditions allow. Including our friend Coire Fionn, etc. grinning smiley

Queuing was my biggest irritation but to be fair I beleive they were opperating at full capacity given wind.

The cafe was doing good business all day.

The snow was drifting allot so some areas were thin & icy and some were deep & powdery.

The boys were out digging out a rail at Butcharts this afternoon. So maybe developements there soon.

If its not too windy this weekend could be fantastic. Sadly I have to go to Cairngorm.

Oh and hats off to the guys keeping the lifts running. Id never climb up a pylon with winds like that!

yeh...said as much in my pub report....would expect Saturday is best day for Glenshee in relation to conditions, terrain and queues

sunday will be busy with the better warmer less windy weather and the GPS starts their training on sunday, so lots of families choosing sun over sat

What has happened to Carn Aosda ski tow, there are still no T-bars on the line yet?
Did manage to walk up and ski down it 3 weeks ago and it was looking pretty good then.
I would have thought that there was enough snow again by now.

Good question.

The christmas break, youd have thought, would have provided great oppertunity to get ready. I hope it gets running soon as its one of my favourites. Also whens the DoT dude coming?

Heres a video I made from Thursday. Didnt have much enthusiasm for film making due to the wind so its nothing special. [youtu.be]

Not sure what to make of this, but just phoned Glenshee and they told me that Carn Aosda was running this afternoon, even though i cant see any T-bars on the webcam.
Im aware that they told me 3 weeks ago that the Cairnwell chair was running and it turned out not to be true.
Has anyone else had this problem?

carn aosda was not running or being prepared to run today

caenlochan was being prepared (seen from top of cairnwell t-bar) weekend target for increase in lifts I pressume, corie fionn must be loaded like the other east facing slopes, even glas maol didnt look too far off from afar but consolidation next week will probably put this back again

I just wanted to comment seperately from my public report that I thought the piste preparation at Glenshee today was brilliant...shows the importance of new piste bullies in allowing the staff to do a brilliant job

And it is evedent from the snow distribution that all the effort over the summer in new fencing has improved snow holding and accumulation especially on the windy days we have just had, in the past the old fences didnt hold so much and the conditions were much poorer compared to the good conditions so far this season when the snow falls

all round good job and choice by management on how to spend the profits from the last 2 good seasons we have had....long may it continue

The Cairnwell chair did run before the sunday before xmas but it was only for a few minutes. A couple of people made it to the top.
