Nevis Range is now open, just the lower tows around the top of the Gondola, Rope Tow, Linnhe and Alpha, but given there was no snow left on these a couple of days ago that's fantastic news and shows how much has stuck. grinning smiley

Yup - well done to Nevis Range for opening. I headed up for a couple of runs on Alpha and wasn’t expecting much but was just glad to get out of the house.

Firstly the good – There has been lots of new snow with more falling. The runs are filling in well but the visibility was very poor so it was difficult to give a good assessment however I would think most have adequate cover. Since I came down an hour ago it has been raining heavily in Fort William with snow above 1500ft so I expect things are improving further.

Now the bad – The brief blip in temperature early this morning has left a horrible breakable crust off piste and even where pisted the conditions were pretty hard. This was improving with fresh snow but more will be needed to give decent a decent sliding surface.

A couple of phone snaps.....

10ft drifts by the top station

Whilst powder is always nice, I'd be happy with a hairdrier-resistant boilerplate base for now...

Pretty wild up there today but like you say Chris its good to get out on the hill.

Swampy & Geoff in the photo setting up the Transceiver Park at the top of Alpha on the left, which is already loaded with snow.

Heard Swampys radio they were saying 25-50cm for today and another 25-50cm for tomorrow... smiling smiley

Its chucking it down here at the mo so it must be loaded up there.

Sounding good on the afternoon report.

Lots of fresh snow with deep drifts. Most runs complete with lots of fresh snow at all levels. Wind packed snow on the Summit runs, a steep natural 1/2 pipe in the upper Goose gully and you can ski to the bottom of the quad chair. The snow is wet below 800m where there has been a mix of snow and sleet falling.

Temps have crept up above freezing now so it will all get a bit wet but a refreeze and snow showers should follow on later this evening so all in all a great base building cycle.

That's me sorted for tomorrow then! And a day ticket for only £11.75 :-)

Good conditions on the hill this afternoon, nice packed powder on the middle two thirds of the Goose, a wee bit firm at the top but still fine to get an edge on. Away from the main runs the front of the hill is looking quite bare and windblown but the snow is in all the places that count with a really good depth building up in places. According to Blair from the SAIS the back corries are holding alot of snow though quite icy. I'll try and upload some pics I snapped later on.

I'd give the conditions only 4/10 today

I've got photos and video that I'll upload later, you can the see for yourself the conditions instead of having to believe the lies on the Nevis web site

Yeah a bit harsh sexboy. I know there was a fair bit of firm snow around but also some decent packed powder. I'd give it a solid 6/10, i.e. well worth it and given the thaw and refreeze that occurred yesterday better than expected.

Report and some phone pics here: [www.winterhighland.info]

^^ Cheers for the report - looks good, hope the winds don't affect the weekend.

Any news of the state of the Quad?
