Chris H, did we have a chat on the summit on sunday? I have been unsure if this forum user name is who I think it is?

Not sure, I don't think so as most folk I spoke to that day I knew who they were. I had a blue jacket and brown pants on if that helps !!

Pics from Nevis Facebook today. More snow would be nice but looks like a decent packed powder surface so should be well worth the trip this weekend.

Great day at Nevis on Saturday. The Backs were in very good form, some cornice debris lying under fresh snow to catch the unwary, so line choice and a good pair of eyes were essential smiling smiley Stand out run was Spikes, which had a lovely layer of fresh snow on a firm base but Summit gully and Chancer were also good. Shame the cloud cover started to roll in around lunchtime.

4-6 inches of fresh resulted in the best day of 2012 so far. Poor visibility made for some challenging cornice entrances but lap after lap of freshies more than made up for it.

I was on the Back Corrie Workshop yesterday and it was a great day to really test the theory in practice. Can't remember there being that amount of visibility.

Agree about the challenging cornice, but taking the right precautions it was worth the drop in to the loads of fresh snow.

Well worth going on the workshop. I never would have ventured into the areas we went and felt as aware and safe. Found some great spots I never knew existed and it opened up a whole new area to enjoy.

Radar suggests another 2 to 4 inches of snow further up the mountain today. Thin cover over soft unfrozen ground lower down, but starting to look more promising on the top half of the mountain! Nevis is on standby to open if it is possible - keep an eye on the radar, webcams and reports.

Mountain Bikers: The Orange Downhill will be open this weekend with gondola uplift. Red Route will be closed as there is work underway to repair/tidy up winter storm damage. Gondola uplift for bikes usually isn't permitted by Nevis Range's lease until 2nd week of May, so a unique chance for bikers to get out for an early play.

You never know you might just be able to ski and bike in one day!

Not sure of the temps, but there is a cracker of a slow moving shower over Nevis just now. Hopefully puking down smiling smiley
and with a bit of luck it will drift as far as the coe too.
