good news but they should update their website then

Yes they should. Why haven't they considering they must be opening soon. Its the same for all the ski resorts. Why the lack of updates compared to previous years.

Must do better.A very poor effort so far.Its not as if its hard to update a website is it.Must do better guys.

I'll have somebody from the Nevis range come round to your house personally and give you a written update on the hour, every hour

Is that good enough for you? Or would you like even more?

it concerns me that there is no activity to be seen at all on webcams at Nevis. I would have thought they would be out with the piste bashers smoothing out drifts and getting the tow tracks sorted and farming snow to lift access points etc etc, cant even see any pommas on the summit lift? I know the weather has been poor but today would have been the perfect opportunity to get some jobs done if they were serious about opening soon?

Nevis Range web site seems very clear to me...

"We plan to open for skiing and snowboarding on Saturday 17 December 2011, providing there is sufficient snow. However IF there is sufficient snow for skiing and snowboarding before this date then we may be able to open the weekend before."

For sure the web cams *look* white - but I bet ya there is million rocky sharks just under the snow which hasn't yet consolidated. Plus there is heavy rainy forecast for Thursday (FL3500ft) which might yet poop on the parade.

I am 100% sure that Nevis Range will open some tows this weekend if snow and weather make it worthwhile (same with Glencoe). However they simply cant make a call until closer to the weekend. So check back Thursday and Friday and all will become clear.

Only snowed 2 days ago and already the whinger-highlanders are out in force grinning smiley

The forecast winds on MWIS for Thursday would suggest they'll struggle to get any prep work done that day !!

"Southwest, turning west or late in day northwesterly: in range 60-90, gusts as high as 120mph Lochaber. Most intense winds probable in afternoon."

Those are pretty extreme values and if the wind did get that high it might be storm recovery work prevents a weekend opening, if all the snow hasn't been blown off the hill !!

It also currently says on their snow report page (updated yesterday, 5/12 not today)

"We are currently closed for annual maintenance from 14 Nov to 16 Dec and plan to looking foward to seeing you all again from the 17 Dec"

a) Page should be updated daily, if not half daily
b) The website info is not consistent.

we live in the age of digital information - everyone expects sites like this to be up to date, current, consistent and informative. So yeah, maybe I am expecting too much but I'm not alone.

Hi Chris
I'm sure (and hope) you're right. In my business, information is everything and it frustrates me that our ski centres still haven't cottoned on to how important up to date and consistent information is. Even if its not what we want to hear, I still want to know it. It takes all of 10 secs to type in an update but at least the punters know whats what.

I've been ranting about NR but its a common problem across all areas.

Grumpy that is a completely ridiculous thing to say. The web is a portal of opportunity for the resorts to sell themselves to Joe Public. If people feel there isn't enough information then there should be a response as I'm sure there will be.

Updating a website with the latest details not only informs you and I but it is far cheaper than having people manning phone calls. I don't see these comments as winging I see them mostly as constructive criticism as everyone on here only really wants one things and that's to ski or board.

The marketing departments at some of the resorts in my opinion should be replaced and the work left to people on here. Some of the 'public reports' on Winterhighland' are far superior to anything you see on CML or Nevis website. Hopefully there will be only one report soon and that is OPEN!

Quite a lot of snow falling in Fort William when I was in Chris at about 4.30.

I can understand folks frustration as they want to get up the hill and slide but my concern is that the Goose is still derailed and without boxes and the Summit is without boxes.

As you say Chris crazy winds are forecast for Thursday so that's one down day for engineering leaving Wednesday and Friday to get goose and the summit set up... I dont see them getting the upper hill ready in time I hope I am so wrong.

The forecast is looking good for more snow and currently snowing, Thursday is an interesting one I think it might not be dismal as people first thought we will just have to wait and see.

Forecast for the rest of the week is then cold again with snow and potentially light winds into the afternoon on Saturday with sunshine... smiling smiley
