Stupid/crazy antics of skiers and boarders

There must be hundreds of interesting stories about how not to conduct yourself around lifts. Come on lifties here is your chance to tell us how it is.
The story goes a few years ago in Glenshee that a liftie had asked the same guy on 4 occasions not to stab him with his poles and suggested that if he continued to stab him he would wrap his poles around his neck

i once saw a skier arrive arrive at the bottom of cluny poma, take off his skis, sling them over his shoulder and try to sit down on the platter. lucky for him, he couldn't figure out how to get it to release, giving the lifty enough time to point out his mistake.....

There was a pickaxe handle in the snow at the bottom of the Ptarmigan Tow the other week with "CML complaints department" on the handle tongue sticking out smiley

That is the kind of thing which to me is mildly amusing but possibly just a touch off-putting to those who are not regulars or have a slightly more genteel sense of humour. If someone has a genuine or even minor quibble and they see that they may feel a little intimidated in taking their problem further. A business relies on feedback (positive and negative) to identify areas for improvement otherwise they can become complacent and they probably ought to discourage such public negativity even if it is frivolous. I'm sufficiently laid back that it would have to be a really major problem for me to bother complaining but others may differ and they should feel comfortable in doing so. Good PR might not be as important as good cover but people tend remember and overemphasise the small negatives more often than they do the big positives and it can influence their overall perception of a resort and therefore their likelihood to return. Apologies for being all serious in what i assume is a lighthearted thread.

Yes this is meant to be a light hearted thread to demonstrate that some of us have a sense of humour and that not all complaints are viable. So set up a moaners and complainers thread to deal with the serious people out there

Seen some funny stuff working as a liftie at NR a few years back.

Climbers on the Quad chair was always interesting when they would go to jump of at the top and realise their backpack is caught on the back of the seat seen a few climbers dangling from the Chair.. lol

When the Summit tow is loaded with snow I have seen a few skiers & Boarders take a whack to the back of the head with the boxes on the tow....ouch

I have even seen a skidoo going down the hill with no one on it with a patroler scratching his head...

I also once saw a skier going fast... winking smiley

I could list a few things that I have done to make a complete idiot of myself which as far as I am concerned is all part of the learning process, here's the list:

- got off poma at top stood there thinking 'shall I go left or right', went left and got the poma from the lift next to me right in the face. Had swelling and bruising for weeks.

- first attempt at Sunnyside poma, got to the top once( I hung on for dear life) out of 10 continous tries.

- Some weeks ago got good speed coming down Race track at Glenshee got to bottom and thought I could take the speed through caught my edge, slammed down, whiplashed the neck and goggles went flying about 20 feet and hit someone in the very long queue-always good to have an audience when you disgrace yourself! Had to shake myself up and walk to back of queue like it never happened, although the guy who received my goggles politelty brought them over to me.

- Few weeks ago at Glenshee I wondered why I was one of about 10 people on the slopes, thought great got the place to myself. Everywhere was non-goomed, sheet ice and it took me an hour to get to Corrie Fionn, where I decided it was too dangerous to even try, and then it took me another hour to get back! However, before going back there was a group of Advanced BASI skiers on Corrie Fionn - good to watch- while I had some sandwiches. All in all a good uplifting experience.

Saw this & thought Id share, not Scotland but still funny. Not sure how its possible

Also I've been on Caenlocahn at GS when the lift stopped on the steepest section, I slid back a bit, the lift started as I was sliding back and I got lifted high off the ground. Somehow landed back on my skis as well.

Also seen newbie telemarkers on Coire Fionn poma a few times, need I say the rest? Use your imagination :L

i've a feeling there are plenty of pre-existing threads that fulfil that purpose already

Once saw a snowboarder at Glenshee put the full t-bar between their legs (both sides). Then got dragged up the hill on his back until the liftie stopped the tow. The guy then couldn't get the bars out as his weight was fully supported by it.

Seen something very similar to that on the Ptarmigan about 10 years ago. A boarder put the bar between his legs, the bar line never came out for whatever reason and away he went. He got to about the first tower before the lift stopped. They had to drive a Piste Basher under him to get him off the bar.
