I am planning a trip back to Scotlansd for May bank holiday - I will be taking my ski's with me.

Fortunately the only winter prep my car got this year was a 5litre bottle of windscreen wash rated to -70 from Lidil (may have been Aldi) by the time i dilute it I will still have some left for next year.

Here we are, 99 days after when I first posted this, and we can now call it a day without feeling too bitter.

So how bad has it been on the whole? For everywhere but Cairngorm I think its been a bit of a shocker. Hard to beleive that the bulk of Scottish slopes were shut(ting), in most cases for the season, 99 days ago. What a bizarre season!

I put together another time lapse, comparing this season & last. [youtu.be] The dates are not exact but thats due to webcam outages throughout the season. Would be interested to see a Cairngorm one winking smiley

Can't believe it....snow forecast!

(Bear in mind that this is a link to the page and it may have changed if you are reading this post in august !)

I'd take any predictions from snow-forecast.com with a pinch of salt (avoid sprinkling it on any forecasted snow).

At the beginning of this month - 3 May - snow-forecast.com predicted over 80cm of snow for Zermatt on 4 and 5 May.

On 5 May they then forecast another 22cm of snow for 6 May.

Neither of these forecasts were supported by local experts Meteosuisse.ch on the days concerned.

On 8 May - i.e. two days after this 'non storm' - Zermatt's own website reported that the last snowfall was on 2 May. In other words, nothing happened at all!

We're all used to weather forecasts that don't bear fruit, but snow-forecast.com seem to excell in this art. They seem to predict snow within hours of it being impossible, as predicted by local experts, but have the audacity to publish 9 day 'snow forecasts'!

I'm not clear how snow-forecast is operated

I used snow-forecast when in Chile last year, because the locals swore by it. It was near enough spot on, several days in advance, even for the more volatile areas. We were never caught out with an inaccurate forecast. I guess it is more accurate in some regions than others.

I'm pretty sure snow-forecast is just a computer interpretation of the GFS model closest to the ski resort you happen to be looking at.

I don't trust it without looking at the charts they've used to produce the forecast (and definitely not when it's 3-6 days away).
