Clashindarroch Wind Farm
Date Posted: 18.02hrs on Mon 16 Dec 02
AMEC have put forward a proposal to build 50 100m tall wind turbines in the Clashindarroch Forest, Aberdeenshire. They plan to build these along the western edge of the forest. For those of you who know the Ski Trails there will be 5-6 turbines erected along the "Haute Route". AMEC have said that they will re-instate all tracks & promise not to build during the skiing season. One area of concern is that they say they need to clear fell trees around each mast. This will greatly affect the snow holding on the trails. AMEC have agreed to try & resite these masts so that there is minimal felling necessary.
If the the project gets the go ahead construction will start in 2004.
We at the Huntly Nordic Ski Club will try to make sure that as little damage as possible is done to the skiing.
Be prepared to see a lot of these mega wind factories in the countryside over the next few years, especially in Scotland.

Peter,
thanks for the message, it sounds like Amec are going to be reasonably sensitive about this wind farm, which is nice for a change! I haven't actually skied at Huntly, being relatively new to Aberdeen. How does the centre work there ? I'd be grateful for any info.
Cheers
Ruth
