[129.13.102.67]

[129.13.102.67]

Quotes from TWO forum model and snow disscussion thread:

"I have just come back from college and have to say the fantasy runs are just so like December 1981. I have never seen such incredible runs.

I must be dreaming.

Await the 12z run.
"

"Could be interesting up here ......... looks like the skiers will be happy."

"They look like the Gulf Stream has SHUT DOWN!"

"I don't know why, but I have Feb 86 in my head!!!"

But the models are changing all the time, but been consistent with some kind of cold spell.

I you look at the 9 day models at wettercentral it looks as it goes very cold tuesday next week but by the weekend a warm ridge looks set to pass over. Am I reading this right?

Any way to guess the precipitation that will be associated with the activity next week?

The warm sector passing over looks like a short lived affair maybe 24hrs max, then right through the GFS run it's either cold or cool semi zonal flow. Very promising, will it happen though?

As for how much snow, a foot to a foot and half of level snow would not be out of the question at least for the upper slopes, the West looks set to fair best at least at first, so less perhaps in the East, but fairly strong winds so some heavy drifting too.

I think we are potentially looking at a substantial snow event for the Scottish Mountains in the coming week, 20-30cm of snow possible for the Cairngorms, and 50-70cm possible for the Western areas, such as Nevis Range and Glencoe, with moderate to heavy drifting through the week. Potential to do something quite special on the mountains at least! smiling smiley

Yes, there's now no doubt that there will be snow, at least a good bit, possibly the most there's been for a good while. Certainly there should be more than fell at any stage last season (including October and early February). By this time next week things will look a lot different.

The models have backed down from such a cold snowy scenario but I don't think it will affect the scottish mounts much, only the south of england (so who care grinning smiley...)

Dusting down to Daylodge level on Cairngorm this morning, with "big drifts" in the Ptarmigan Bowl smiling smiley

More forecast too, keep those fingers crossed!

Monday morning's ensemble runs from GFS were all over the shot after Saturday, basically anything could happen! The 06 and 12hrs runs were horriffic for Monday, but this evenings 06z GFS has started a U-Turn, be interesting to see tomorrow mornings ensembles, because on Monday morning the covered everything from heatwave to iceage!

Current forecast is predicting more snow at the weekend especially sat/sun nights and to stay cooler. Satarday day is still looking good. Freshies at glencoe anyone?

Yup the models are coming back round to where they were late last week, Saturday has potential to be good, cold dry air in a ridge of high pressure, settled, light winds and maybe even some blue sky and sunshine, keep an eye on the mountain forecasts as sat comes into range, but, don't tell everyone! :p

Thought milder air was being predicted for sunday onwards,
so we had better get out on the hills before it all melts again...
