Hey Alan, what's the prognosis with all this rain? Will anything survive?
Weather models are saying mild all week... perhaps cooler by the weekend but not much chance of a dumping to replenish the losses?

Cold from the weekend is looking like a fairly steady trend in the models, but from which direction or what happens in between is not so sure. Mild air over us, cold air just off the east coast, but sadly the milder air is further east today than last nights runs suggested, all pretty up in the air, a 50 to 100mile movement to the west could see all resorts have refreeze!

Having missed that wonderful Saturday at the weekend there (going by the pics anyway), I was looking forward to a day at Nevis, Tuesday, but alas the weather is not looking good for that. It certainly is a rollercoaster as far as the temperatures go and like you say Alan, it's in the balance as to what's gonna happen. Looking at the webcams today was quite shocking. And that brings me to a point I have wondered for a while, what ever happened to the Nevis webcam that looked up from the bottom of the Goose gully T-bar?...........

Oh, that's a pity. You can read report after report but a check at a webcam says it all really, as long as it aint snowed up! Thanks for the info.

Govt Health Warning:

Viewing the CairnGorm Web Cams could be dangerous to your mental health!!

Advice:

View the weekend Pics, then look up some weather charts for the weekend!! smiling smiley

The trend is still there for a cold end to the month, hopefully enough of a base will come through in the critical points like the burns and gullies to have made a net gain out of the last weeks snow. Fingers crossed, TWO is in full snow ramping mode which always fills me with dread....

Another run from GFS going for cold, very mild at 6am Friday could see +12°c 3000ft temperatures, but below freezing by dusk with maybe 6inches of fresh in the West on upper runs overnight.

That sort of dramatic thaw/freeze will mean ice below any freshies, so the sharpen edges thought still valid!

Still early days but it's been consistant now for several days worth of runs, so fingers crossed. It seems almost too good to be true though, GFS is just about forecasting the next Ice Age never mind the next cold spell....

Well, it is a fine sunny morning looking out over the Gorm... however, with the lack of snow, I'll be off on the mountain bike rather than the K2s sad smiley

Let's hope this forecast for snow is correct!

A lot of that weather data doesn't mean much to me. I'll stick to looking out of the window I think.

Have been looking out my window for the past half hour... Big dollops at first, but easing off. Seems to be lying slightly, but at present doesn't look like it'll amount to much. We'll see in the morning!

Alan, for all us weather thickos (or is it just me?) what's the relationship between temperature and altitude i.e. if it;s -10 at 5000 feet what is it at 2000 feet?
ps please don't get my hopes up with this snow ramping I was gutted by the outcome of the last 'blast' :-(
