About snowmaking and wind. Just had a look at Kirkwood's report and it said "wind: Extremely!" so I had a look at the weather data from the top of Chair 6, in the past 5 minutes it's been a sustained 100mph gusting 153mph. The webcam shows a trail of guns blazing snow horizontally across the runs by Chair 5, and Chair 5 still running to mid-mountain - that lift doesn't have a 25mph knock off that's for sure!

Well the weather is forecast to stay settled for a while. Perfect weather for Lecht to fire up all those new snow cannons and catch a bit of trade over the festive period.

I know that the weather has recently changed but I was wondering if the Lecht had made any snow over the christmas holidays.

I will admit to not knowing that much about snow making but it would have seemed that the conditions would have been okay, and most importantly there would have been people to use the man made snow.

Did the lecht open at all?

Cheers

Nope they didn't make any. Think it may have been too mild. All depends on where the inversion layer was. Often the Lecht can be caught under the inversion layer but i don't think so this time.

Drove through the Lecht on my way from Inverness to Aberdeen yesterday evening, not a snowflake in sight, but everything looked ready to go as soon as the stuff does arrive....

I wonder what would happen if cairngorm did this: [pistehors.com]

however, I do think thatwe should be able to move some of the bigger rocks out the way. Nothing drastic, but you sometimes see the same rocks year after year, painted with wax and p-tex. This is apparent on certain lift-lines as well. Like near the top of the Cairnwell T-bar.

That is truly sick, and one reason why skiing on the continent is such an environmental disaster. The winter visitors don't get to see any of the damage because it is hidden under snow.

I've been on the Desert de la Plate in summer and it is an amazing place (or at least was) for alpine flowers. Its also protected under European legislation:

But no doubt there is some

Aaaaaagh. Sorry about that. Seems quotes are not a good idea.

I said, I SAID,

No doubt there was some overriding economic reason which means they can ignore the environmental designation.

Scottish resorts aren't totally eco-friendly, but they are an awful lot better than this, and don't require jet fuel to get there. Which is why I'll still go there. But give me skins or fish-scales most days...

Will it be cold enough over the next 2 weeks to get the cannons fired up?

yo think if we all bought one then we could get a good season?!

STYLE....style is the answer to evrything, a fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous thing....to do a dangerous thing with style is what i call art! Style is the difference, a way of doing........a way of being done!

I think environmentalists might have issue with the "snow" it makes!!
