Well, as someone who's had (like everyone I presume) both amazing and awful days at CGM, and has never been shy of a gripe at the capacity problems at CGM, the weekend just past was a total joy. Only the Ptarmigan and Ciste were running on Saturday - the run down from the restaurant to the traverse was roped off most of the day as they were working on it - fair enough. The sign that Alan posted was up and given that you could see from the train on the way up that it was possible to ski back to the car park, it would have been foolish not to do it later in the day.
The work done was exceptional, although the Gunbarrel was closed, it was fairly obvious that a lot of work had gone into piste-ing the Cas and the Gunbarrel uplift to prepare for this week/coming weekend. Skiing the Cas after the usual ridiculous in yer face wind down the traverse was sublime.
On the Ciste side on the sunday, the down tow came off on Tower 4 and around 100 folk were left watching the engineers getting it back on for close to an hour. No moans at all, the wind was gusting and if the cable comes off, it comes off. Folk were just happy to be out on the snow and accepted it.
The fact that they closed the Ciste for assessment for over an hour, after they'd got everyone back up and then reopened it at about 14:30 was very much appreciated, they could have left it closed but provided their customers with an extra few runs instead.
I thought Cairngorm did a great job at the weekend, mibbe a blank slate of opinion is required this season....
Can't wait for the REAL CGM bashing to start
