Are they opening or not? C'mon guys!

Lifts and pistes just says "All runs and uplift will need to be assessed in the morning."

Agreed - really gets my goat why they don't update sooner. Could be done from anywhere these days

Great to see some of the snow fencing snapped and dumped in a heap in the run of storms has been patched up, such as at the top of Coire Cas. The top of the Traverse has also been fenced in the past week and it's helped get this complete.

One area intentionally unfenced is the upper leg of the Zig Zags and this change has probably been the difference between the complete and skiable Gunbarrel we currently have, and it being unskiable and patchy.

I was up on Sunday - looks to be a lot of fence work still to be done after the storms.

I was impressed with the lifties though - they were doing a really good job of getting everyone to double up on the tows including boarders, so almost no tows went up single. Kept the queues down on what was a busy day, particularly one the top lifts went off as the wind increased.

Nice to see cairngorm on the TV, shame it showed mainly grass and heather and didnt represent the ski cover demonstarted inpictures on this site.

It would be ironic if the group up the funicular looking to where the wind turbines would be on the horizon, were also in groups that opposed the building of the funicular in the first place

the scottish goverment will probably pass the planning anyway...and the councilors will still have their jobs too.

Be nice to skiers...they have enough problems already

They should stick a few wind turbine on Cairngorm mountain itself and use the power to fuel uplift. That would kick up a fuss winking smiley

On a serious note are there not some resorts in the states that run on renewables?

IIRC Vail Resorts buys their electricity from renewable electricity companies, but it's off site grid power. Kirkwood was looking at installing quite a powerful wind turbine on site to at least reduce the load on (and cost of fuelling) their power house as they have to generate all their own.

Thought it was Vail resorts that do that.

Would be interesting to see if they go ahead at Kirkwood with their onsight wind turbine idea. Can't imagine making turns past one of those winking smiley

Taking the thread even further off topic before I head up the hill at Glencoe to find out what befell the Summit AWS last night! Grouse Mountain in Vancouver has a large wind turbine on the mountain and it's become a popular attraction in it's own right- 'the eye of the wind', hung below the rotor hub is an enclosed observation deck that provides a 360view over the mountain and the city of Vancouver.

Maybe one for the hill behind Badaguish where the vodafone mast for Glenmore is? *ducks*

You could develop a flat rather than a viewing platform, housing with no energy bills and great views
