I lost a couple more so I'm in combat mode now. I just bumbled across this ... [www.csh.rit.edu] ... where the author tests the best workarounds. Evidently pitch shifting up or down by more than 5% is most effective but the editing out chunks as suggested by remote patrol works most times too.

The only one I've had silenced is the one I used Depeche Mode on.

All the other films I've put audio on I've used pretty obscure groups that I came across when I used to go to the Les Mills exercise programmes when I was a member of a gym a couple of years ago. The music used there was often well known songs done by a cover group at a faster pace or a techno version.

For example I used 'The Final Countdown' on the video of Yvonne skiing the White Lady in May 2006, but by a cover group called Heavydance. It's faster than the original 'Europe' version and I actually prefer it ( it's my phone ringtone), but more to the point it's not been silenced.

Mind you, my purist son cringes at any cover version particularly if it's techno, and if he ever watches his Mum's videos it's with the sound off grinning smiley

If you are looking for a cross platform (linux, windows, mac) free audio editor/recorder/manipulator then the "best" one around is Audacity

[audacity.sourceforge.net]

remember to download the mp3 encoder for creating mp3 files

And the free simple editing (fade in, cut out, add in) guide is available here [www.steeple.org.uk]

If anyone needs help using the software feel free to PM me.

got a new message on this one! adding adverts to the video, which to my mind is a far better plan, see video, like tune, click on link to buy it.... everyone's a winner there!

much love for audacity too grinning smiley very handy bit of software, now if only someone could come up with a similarly sweet open source video editor.....

also came across this article [www.electricpig.co.uk] nicely shows how daft the youtube takedowns can be.....
