Snow Conditions

Vertical Runs : 2000 ft.
Snow Level : 1800 ft.

Run Conditions

Upper

All complete and wide, firm packed snow on a hard packed base of dry snow. Excellent beginners areas in Ptarmigan Basin. Good skiing on well pisted runs!

Middle

All runs complete and wide with firm packed snow, except West Wall. Hard packed base underneath. Ciste Gully is good with wide deep cover, complete to below Aonach. To get back to the Aonach ski to slightly below the tow and cut across, a slight climb or high speed is required but it avoids heather hoping! White Lady is superb with great spring snow and huge bumps, and a wide cover. Total cover across upper M1 and White Lady. Even the high 'Elephant Fences' are almost burried, with only the tops sticking out.

Excellent snow conditions throughout area.

Despite the substanital snow cover on many runs the upper Coire Cas is still narrow and has nowhere near it's normal depth of cover, however the Gunbarralel is wide with a deep cover. Possible to leave Cas to the left at the top. The Traverse and 105 have a deep cover. Possible to follow the traverse to head of the Cas. The Fiacaill runs have some good skiing, however beware of rocks, the snow seems to be best where there's usually the least snow and biggest rocks! The half pipe on the Fiacaill has sort of filled in, however there's still some good jumps and bumps in the funpark. There's also a huge 'freestyle' jump below the bottom of the M1 on the Whitelady, not for the light hearded this one!

The East Wall has good skiing on offer. Hard packed snow on a hard base, possible to traverse out of Ciste Gully at any point. This cannot be said of the West Wall which remains almost snowless, the Chair Run is also closed, though the lower section can be reached by traversing from the upper Aonach Bowl, providing easy access back to West Wall Chair. It's easier to ski out the Ciste Gully to the Aonach Poma, great snow all the way, instead of negotiating the very narrow traverse across the West Wall.

SAIS report superb ski touring condtions in the Northern Corries, good skiing in Coire An-t Snechda, access from either the Fiacaill T-bar or from the fences above the Fiacaill which can be reached from the top of the Coire Cas. Remember as with the Coire Loagh Mor runs, while marked on piste maps, they are unpatrolled and apart from some limited fencing in and out they are unmarked, people unfamiliar with the Northern Corries are advised not to ski these runs if weather is anything other than perfect, and they shouldn't be attempted alone! Enough warnings, but belive me it's well worth it, particularly if the sun is shining and the ski area busy. The top access run into Coire An-t Snechda has been pisted.

Lower

All runs complete and wide, packed snow on a firm base, which is expected to soften later. Good skiing. Aonach is still in good shape, particularly lower down, but the top is moguled, icy and very fast!! Day Lodge Poma run has a wide and mostly deep cover. M2 and Daylodge Poma best return route to carpark, unless you want to ski the Whitelady or something like that!

The Ciste Gully is complete to the diagonal fences across the narrow bit a few hundred yards below the Aonach. However not advisable to try and ski it to Carpark, a fair bit of walking, heather hoping, and pushing required! Best route via Coire Loagh Mor.

Great skiing in Coire Loagh Mor, on mostly unskied snow. Some powder in recent days! Link complete to Ciste Chairlift, be carefull not to overshoot the fenced run back to the chair, or you may end up with a fair hike backup!
