Carn a Gheoidh from Glenshee.
First of all there must be some other tourers out there holding out against letting Facebook be the forum of choice for Scottish ski tourers. If you are one of them please post a tour here.
Despite all the thaw there is still some roadside access to the snow at Glenshee. We carried for 10 minutes at the start of the day and skied back to the road. Route out to Carn a Gheoidh and back over Cairnwell. Skis on apart for about 15m at top of the Cairnwell.
:: Weather Conditions
The forecast gales did not happen. We had a couple of hail squalls but enjoyed good vis for much of the time out.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
A little fresh on a deep and wide base. The snow/ice on the lochans showing signs of weakness.

Cycled from Linn of Dee, then walked then skied from 700m to Beinn Bhrotain. Walk/ ski to Monadh Mor then to the remote top of Tom Dubh. Skied most of the way back to Beinn Bhrotain then 1500 foot descent.
:: Weather Conditions
Too sunny and warm. 20 degrees in Braemar.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Lots of snow on east and south east facing slopes. None on north west facing slopes. Enough snow to ski across the Moine Mhor with a few small breaks.

Ben Bhrotain. Bike from Linn of Dee past White Bridge, walk to about 100m up from river level, skis to the top via the obvious burn line.
:: Weather Conditions
Sun. Air was cold but warm in the corrie... Alpine!
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Fabulous spring snow. Some careful route finding low down to connect snow patchs.

Spittal of Glenshee to Loch Callater, via various tops. Crossing road at ski centre.
:: Weather Conditions
Wall to wall sunshine, below freezing, calm. Fresh breeze at one point, but otherwise perfect.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Snow very wind affected. Good skinning conditions, many exposed N-S ridges scoured and other slopes largely wind packed, large areas of Sastrugi very firm under ski. For descents snow distribution more even/predictable lower down in glens and lower slopes. Big cornices over some E slopes. Y gully and Twisting Gully in Corrie Kander in decent shape. Lochs freezing, but not yet solid for travel. Lots of xc/Nordic action on Loch Callater estate track.
