Up Highland Fling and back

Cold and clear (-3C in car park)

Snow much the same as yesterday, but had crisped up so was very fast. Looks to have been a slight gain since yesterday. Forgot to mention in previous report that though all trails are complete, there are a couple of thin areas on the Haute route that are open to the moor, and there ar a couple of bare patches at the top of Leids Leap, but these only occupy half the width of the trail so are easily avoided.

Haute route, up Highland Fling and down Leids leap, back via Deer Track and Range Way

Cool (-1C in the car park) with light snow falling

Great snow, most of the trails had ~ 12inches of soft snow which had packed down to 4-6inches where pisted. The main tracks around the Haute Route had been pisted and tracks cut. Normans Way and Herring bone Hill weren't pisted.

Clear, light winds in sheltered forest
freezing level above highest point of forest

slow thaw lower down, but lots of snow 30-60cm,
fast skiing due to softening of snow so avoided the "herringbone hill"!

lots people out - 25 cars in carpark
skiidoo pisting the trails

fantastic first day out on the XC skis at clash

Still lots of snow, limited parking space in carpark unless you have 4x4 : )
2" deep snow leading to biatholon hut, there after 6-12" or even more in drifts
snow frozen overnight, so hard and fast in shade, softer in sunshine

no bare patches anywhere
