Scottish Snow & Mountain Sports
Updated: 19.56hrs Wednesday 13th November 2019

Wednesday was the sort of day we hope to see plenty more off once we are into winter with a good cover of snow on the hills! The good news is the outlook through the weekend into next weekend remains fairly cold, the question is how much precipitation will fall. Though in the short term the fairly deep cold with lows to -8°c on the tops last night with a thin snow cover means the ground is freezing up and that's the perfect start if we do subsequently get further decent falls of snow on top.

With snow lying and some slight drifting on top of frozen ground it would not require a huge amount of further snowfall for some limited action to kick of the season at either the Lecht or Glenshee. CairnGorm would not be far off either if there was non surface uplift to access the upper mountain. Forecast models vary from almost dry with just flurries over the next few days to potentially 5-6 inches for some locations, day to day detail regarding exact wind direction with shallow troughs meandering about near Scotland will be the driver for whether we get some decent convective showers coming into the Northern Cairngorms from the Moray Firth in the coming days.

Stay tuned, we might not be too far away from an official start to the season and though thin people have been out touring on CairnGorm today.
