The top was scoured and fronzen but slide very easily under ski

Fence line verge was catching the drift and proved good running downhill.

drifting by gate on South Downs Way. due to flinty path beyond I took the verges to be able to keep skiing
| The chalk path is not dirty snow.

Note drifting on left and ice on pond on right. the descent from here, 12 o'clock was good thanks to a drift in line with the fall line. Brighton and the sea in far distance

:: Tour Route(s) or Location Skied/Ridden
South Downs: Ditchling Beacon to Jack windmill. From car park along South Downs Way and down lane to Jack. Back via north side of fence in field, under repair, to rejoin at top of that hill. Some 'downhill' in a drift south of the dew pond but it got too steep for XC skis

0c or below all day with a ferociously cold wind from the East

Light covering over all the Downs with drifring along hedges, fences, furrows, gorse bushes. Frozen overnight. slight crust on drifts
