21st day of tow operation for 2017/2018 winter:
Early hard snow with ripples softened as the day progressed and also got smoother with traffic. Snow depth varied from none (grass patches) to 1.8 m adjacent to the new higher snow fences.
All runs east of the tow plus President's complete with a few small patches of grass.
Less snow west of the tow: Way Out West was possible using the walker's path and required good navigation to link the snow patches hiding in the tussock grass to get back to the tow.
A sharp hail shower early on but otherwise mostly sunnny with little wind. Above freezing all day.

The 31st and probably last day of the tow running during the 2016 season was a bonus day after we thought the season had finished.
Snow depth varied from scoured (rocks) to 1m+ drifts. Drifts near the top of the tow required some digging to form a trench for the down-going hangers.
First thing: full cover, wet powder, good skiing. The snow got slower and scarcer as the day progressed, ending better as spring snow developed. Way out west wnet from full cover to 50/50 snow/grass lower down but was still fun.
Some members skied Helvellyn headwall on the way to the apres-ski at the Traveller's Rest.
Sunny early but cloud lowered and swirled so mostly poor vis. -3?C at engine hut.

Excellent snow - below freezing all day so hard-pack with loose powder as surface was cut up by skiers. Presidents was challenging in the poor visibility due the natural terrain features that could catch the unwary. Savages good but slightly truncated by the need to avoid the landslip. Way Out West had a lot of traffic and was probably the run of the day.
perfect sunny day. light southerly wind very clear air excellent versions above inversion layer. very warm in the sun. freezing level well above the tops.

Superb spring snow. Probably one of my most enjoyable days skiing this year. Very forgiving snow. The day started well and just got better and better. the snow never got mushy or too soft. We were essentially skiing on the melting neve layer which makes up the Raise glacier this year. Only Savages and the bottom of the presidents was skiable and only from P4 but dont be decieved by the lack of cover. The depth is still in excess of 3m at the bottom and the skiing surface was superb. Tomorrow may be the last day the tow runs this year however ? ..... but what season over 40 days !

Superb spring snow. more than 3m of snow mat the bottom of savages and the presidents but some thin sections at the top requiring either a sporting jump over the fence or following a shovelled trail at the top of the presidents. Skied Helvellyn direct in the afternoon for the first time in 25 years. Slighty icy at the top !
