Dusk at Loch Morlich. Prefect end to a prefect weather day!
| CairnGorm Mountain's Northern Corries at Sundown.
|
The setting sun casts a pinkish glow over the snow capped CairnGorm Mountain at the end of another day of superb weather for being in the mountains.
| On the Fairway the base is hard packed giving some scrapped icy sections on the steeper pitches.
|
Heading for the Traverse past the Ptarmigan Restaurant.
| Sign says go slowly rocks, take heed, at the top of the M1 Race Track for about 20yards there is a problem!
|
Beyond the M1 Race Track the Traverse proper is in great shape with lovely loose spring snow, along with 105 best on the mountain. The 105's merger with the Gunbarrel is a bit icy.
| The Ciste Fairway is offering reasonable sport, good fun in this weather, but the run is narrow in places.

| Another suncream and shades day on the 'Gorm.

As was the case on Wednesday, Thursday was another perfect blue sky day. Friday brought more of the same, but more cloud for the weekend, with some very welcome snow showers forecast. Only limited terrain on offer within the Top Basin, and the Traverse, Cas and Gunbarrel (which is offering something of a challenge!!).
The best snow is to be found on the Traverse and 105, loose spring snow on and the 105 is generally still full width. Watch the top of the Traverse where it veers left from the M1, this part has no base, and was patched up early in the week, but rocks have got mixed in with the snow, either side step through it, or hop of your plank(s) for about 20yards. Straight lining it doesn't work, I have need to get the p-tex candles out.....
Thanks to Dylan Hayes for Thursday's photos.
