The 'Gorm was closed on Thursday and Friday by two days worth of storm force South Easterly winds, not one snow flake fell, but CairnGorm Mountain has seen big snow gains thanks to a substantial redistribution of snow from the Plateau. The Cas Gunbarrel has been transformed in 48hours and the difference could not be more marked, and is now flat for the first time in two years, and offering great sport for intermediates.
The Gunbarrel isn't the only place to have been loaded over the past two days, the White Lady has gone from nothing to best on the mountain, and is wide and flat and the upper/mid section is pisted out to 4 Kassbohers width, and still enough width to take to the unpisted stuff! Narrower below the fence back to M1, but fully complete to the Sheiling, best it's been since October 2002.
Excellent nursery areas up top, but some scoured icy patches to beware of. M2 is complete, and the Over Yonder traverse through the Aonach Bowl is complete to the West Wall Poma. Ciste Gully complete to well below the board walks, but snow needs to consolidate and stabilise before this area can be checked out. Forecast not great for Sunday, but get up there, great sport on windblown loose snow, turning milder for a while early next week, and best off all on Saturday, no queues on the Cas or M1 Poma!!
