Report
A period of heavy overnight snow gave a covering to well below the Top of the Access Chairlift on Wednesday morning. Between 14 and 18cm of snow indicated by radar data, but it certainly is not level snow after a pretty stormy night where winds briefly nudged gusts at the base to 81mph in the early hours!
The sledge park at the Plateau Cafe was busy despite a cold and blustery day and the Plateau Cafe itself is open, serving from 10am to 3pm through to at least Sunday 16th April. Unlimited use of the sledges is complimentary, they are stored in the two big wooden bunkers outside the cafe.
For lift served snowsports the situation at dusk on Wednesday was that there was not quite enough snow to allow any lift served snowsports. However snow was continuing to drift in and some of the Plateau runs / uptracks were not that far from being usable. Changing wind direction overnight may help to blow more snow into Ski Tow Gully, where again there wasn't quite enough snow for the Main Basin T-bar.
Areas of snow will circulate around in the double low pressure system tonight, there is some uncertainty about snowfall totals for any specific location, so it is still possible that enough falling or drifting snow could land in the right places to allow at least something to operate for lift served turns in the next day or two.
Keep an eye on all social media channels, because if things get to the go stage it is likely to be a two or few day wonder, so be on standby just in case!
Both the red and black downhill bike tracks are open and some intrepid riders bashed through the drifts at the top of the bike tracks for some Wednesday afternoon laps!
