After the mid-week storm which dumped over 6 inches of fresh with substantial drifting it took hours of overnight machine work to get the Wall T-bar and Main Basin T-bar up and running pretty quickly on Thursday.
With no wind and clear starry skies overnight into Friday, it was open to the top from the off and that hopefully will be the case on Saturday too. Moderate SE winds expected, so not quite as still as much of Friday, but SE winds don't generally hit Glencoe full whack.
Good Sunny Spells and excellent visibility forecast under part cloudy skies on Saturday. On the mountain from below the Plateau up cover is wide and deep with in many cases the main runs becoming somewhat irrelevant and merging together into a big white playground.
Snap thaw/freeze cycles earlier in the week mean there is a firm to hard base under the new snow, so there are a few icy patches high up but it is mostly superb machine groomed / skier packed dry snow, some bumps will build through the day but the Main Basin was corduroy heaven for the early birds on Friday.
For those who don't want to download on the Access Chair but get a few more turns in you can ride down on continuous lines to around the 1400ft contour, you can get slightly further down the Black Access than the Red, but it was staying pretty firm as it was in shade more. Weasel Gully is the best option, though a couple of minutes more walking than via the red to return to the carpark - but worth every step on Friday afternoon!
There will only be a limited takeout service from the Plateua Cafe on Saturday, if possible please bring a flask and packed lunch. Today was fine for eating it out on the mountain, but please take your litter home.
