Report
Around 15 to 20cm of new snow has fallen in strong WNW winds, giving significant fresh windblown snow on the upper mountain, and discontinuous big drifts down onto the Plateau.
While there has not been enough snow for uplift to resume (and the odds are any further big falls will probably come from the wrong direction for the Rannoch Button uptrack) those who hiked / skinned up were rewarded with fresh tracks under bright sunshine on Tuesday morning.
Later on cloud bubbled up and some further April snow showers rattled through on a freshening WNW to NW wind into the evening. Temperatures have dropped back to below -4°c at the summit and loose snow was blowing about quite a bit on the upper mountain. Thus potential for more fresh tracks on Wednesday, again under fairly bright to sunny skies, particularly morning and early afternoon.
Turns have to be earned from the top of the Access Chair, which opens at 9am. Forecast for Thursday is pretty poor, high winds and rain preceeded by early snow before things improve again for Friday. But for touring Wednesday morning is the one to aim for!
The sledge park at the Plateau Cafe is open, recommended to arrive by 3pm for sledging as the last chair down is 4.30pm. Disc golf is available on the mountain.
Red and Black Downhill bike tracks are open, but are expected to have slight snow cover at the top on Wednesday AM with a risk of icy patches as it was down to 1°c at base at posting. Go carefully to start the day!
