A fine dusk with a full moon rising above Rannoch Moor without a breath of wind on Meall a' Bhuiridh. The ominous looking cloud beginning to appear from behind the hill, the first signs of the weather to move in overnight.
Later this evening wind speeds will begin to ramp up, with Storm Force SE'lys developing around the deepening Storm Gerrit. Snowfall will arrive into the West Highlands pre-dawn, exact timing a bit uncertain with full on blizzard conditions quickly developing.
The peak of wind speeds will be around or soon after opening time, with gusts to or above 100mph from the East or ESE at the top expected. However as Gerrit moves in, it is expected (but not guaranteed) that wind will moderate significantly late morning or thereabouts. It is unlikely the Access Chair will open on time, but once the wind begins to moderate and veer SE things are expected to improve - but not all the forecasts agree so check for updates through the morning if you are thinking of coming sledging.
Also uncertain is the peak freezing level as the warm front occludes out, snow may get quite wet for a time at lower slope level, but this should help it stick in the ferocious early morning wind.
Apart from the snow factory snow on the sledging slope there is very little snow on the mountain, but that should change through Wednesday. Looks fairly promising few days coming up for snowfall, so keep checking the forecasts and webcams!
