The New Year Bank Holiday Tuesday was not a day for the views at Glencoe, a damp slightly drizzly mist persisted through the day at all levels.
However the sledge park was busy and lots of smiles, and a lot of hot chocolates consumed in the Plateau Cafe! If you are going sledging the Access Chair opens at 9am and the sledge park is much quieter in the morning than afternoon. To ensure you get a reasonable length of time on the hill it is advisable to be on the chairlift no later than 2.30pm for sledging.
Despite the freezing level hovering around the summit, it managed to drizzle at all levels. Forecasts indicate precipitation will revert to snow, with potentially 10cm over the next 24 hours from areas of showers.
That could make the difference with a little bit of drifting from a direction other than SE to put some snow into problem areas that the machines can't currently get to link things together to get some tows open for lift served snowsports. It's tantalisingly close, but not quite doable yet.
