Waterfall under the Access Chair icing up. The river was the only view on Saturday!
| Old Mugs Alley - via the loop round by the cafe is the best option for early intermediates with the Coire Pollach Tow open.
|
Going up the Plateau Poma. Uptrack is fairly mellow despite not much depth in places.
| Only short wait was for the Coire Pollach Tow, as this was had slightly better visibility than the top of the other open lifts.
|
Boarder on lower Mugs Alley, this is skiable to the Cliffhanger Chairlift, but Old Mugs Alley is the easier route.
| Top of the Cliffhanger Chair. Top leg of Mugs Alley is OK, but the corner onto the steeper section was getting scrapped and icy.
|
This is why the Coire Pollach Tow was more popular today, could not even see the ground at times on the top half of the Rannoch Chair!
| Sledge Park busy despite the gloom!
|
Congestion on the Low Road !
| The Low Road does widen out once under the Rannoch Chair, but getting back to the lifts is a bit agricultural at the bottom!

A day for taking in the views it was not, with very poor visibility from part way up the Plateau up. Given Old Mugs Alley is the best option for snowplough turners via the loop round by the Plateau Cafe, and the fact it doesn't go quite as far up as the Rannoch Chair made the Coire Pollach Tow the go to lift for families today.
Some scrapped rather icy patches developing in some of the slightly steeper and heavily trafficked pitches, particularly at the corner of Mugs Alley coming down from the Cliffhanger. Though this is marked as green on the map, it should be treated as a blue trail and is not suitable for snowplough turners at present.
There was a dusting of fresh, but with no sun the underlying surface did not loosen up, so little in the way of exploring steeper stuff was done on the mid mountain. The upper leg of Mugs Alley via Old Mugs Alley to the Coire Pollach Tow and Cliffhanger Chair, plus the Plateau Poma Run are being pisted each morning.
Rankin's Return and the Low Road are skiable, but not being pisted as this would trash the narrow / thin route onto and out from the main part of these.
Visibility should be better on the Plateau on Sunday with a higher cloud base forecast, there is a chance it will brighten up more substantially for a time on Sunday afternoon. Forecast output remains uncertain, but the balance of the output is not encouraging mid-week, so if you can get up in the next 2 or 3 days go for it.
If it does get milder, the day the snowpack loosens up again will give some decent fun if visibility OK mid-mountain, but that window will be short if a sustained thaw sets in.
