Sunnyside threatening to live up to it's name for a time on Saturday!
| Looking over to Sunnyside living up to its name, which has full cover across the face, from the Baddoch Chair run.
|
The Cairnwell Chair can shift a lot of people! Providing access to the Tiger and Thunder Bowl for advanced riders, and non surface access to the RaceTracks and Bunny Run,
| Unfortunately it might be more like this on Sunday, Butcharts Access Poma engulfed in the murk later in the day.
|
Lower fenced portion of the Tiger from the Cairnwell Chairlift, skiers hitting the Thunder Bowl to right of chair.
| Something that hasn't been seen in Aberdeen since 21st January apparently!

With the persistence of wind and precipitation from the SE quadrant for much of 2026 so far, it is Glenshee that has amassed the most snow cover out of the snowsports areas.
Even the relatively low level West aspect of Sunnyside has full cover across the face of the hill, somewhat rendering the fenced runs meaningless (though these are the areas getting groomed for those seeking early corduroy). Over the back the Tom Dearg and Cluny runs are in good shape, though cover is not as deep / extensive as on the West facing aspects.
For more advanced riders the Cairnwell Chairlift was giving access to the Tiger and Thunder Bowl, and non surface uplift access to the Cairnwell RaceTracks and Bunny Run (which can be more directly accessed by the Cairnwell T-bar). Note that though the Bunny Run is green, the descent from the chair to the top of the T-bar is fairly steep to start with for those wishing to avoid using the T-bar to access this run! If the gradient of the Plastic Slope Poma run unsettles you, do not use the Cairnwell Chairlift to access the Bunny Run!
Over beyond the back of Sunnyside the effort to digout infrastructure to allow Meall Odhar to open continues. With snow up to the sheaves on some towers on the Caenlochan Poma.
Thanks to Will Kaye for these photos from Saturday, which was blessed with a rate sighting of the sun for a time! If you have been out on the slopes, please send photos to the email address in the footer!
