CairnGorm Mountain reopened for limited snowsports on Thursday after two days of work by the Piste crews moving many thousands of tonnes of snow around the Top Basin and from the top of the Traverse to link up the limited area now available.
Despite the limited terrain top to Daylodge riding is available giving 1650ft of vertical descent to the top Daylodge bridge back to the Funicular Base Station and the M1 Poma is running for uplift for more experienced skiers mid-mountain, while the Funicular is also mid-stopping.
However the run from the top to the bottom is rarely more than 1 Piste Basher width and at the top of the Carpark Run it's not even that, though the lower slopes improve as you come further down as they are less scoured. Up in the Top Basin there is a complete run of the Ptarmigan T-bar via the Ptarmigan Traverse then a bulldozed track through into the Bowl.
Lighter winds expected Friday should mean things piste up better, where as on Thursday it was quickly big drifts and scoured harder patches. 3 Snow guns are running around the mid-station area.
