Report
CairnGorm Mountain kicked off the season in Scotland on Tuesday, and here's a selection of pics from day one of the 2005 season. The redistribution of the snow over the weekend drifted sufficient snow on to the Ciste Fairway, to allow the Piste Bashes out for the first time this winter on Monday to bash the drifts out and create a run of packed powder on the Ciste. Only very limited but good snow for the first turns, and a quiet fairly low key start to the season, with around 40 to 50people out on the Ciste.
Snow had built up on the Traverse, 105, mid Cas, but the snow more or less run out on the lower Zig Zags, the snow level will have retreated somewhat overnight, but the Traverse should still retain snow to provide a route up for anyone planning to skin up to the top, remember if you've been out touring to post your reports at http://winterhighland.com/backcountry/.
Thanks to George Paton for the pics. If you have any pics from the night to share please sent them to reachhigher@winterhighland.com.
