A light covering of new snow freshened things up for Thursday which turned out to be a glorious day for being in the mountains.
Uplift on Thursday was provided by the Funicular, M1 Poma, Ciste T-bar and the Trainer Tow for novices. The same uplift is scheduled to start the day on Friday, but storm force winds are expected to develop during the morning.
If you are planning a weekend trip, it could be all change from these photos as the high winds will bring about a significant re-distribution of the all over covering of fresh snow before the approaching fronts bring snow to the Cairngorms later in the day.
Friday evening into the early hours of Sat is looking very wild with hurricane force Southerly winds and a period of heavy, possibly pretty wet snow. Potentially good base building combo for CairnGorm - but small changes in track could significantly impact the amount of snow fall. The wind is forecast to ease by first lift time on Sat, but there may be a significant amount of work to prepare the area post storm, if we get the Southerly blizzard it's the prime setup for choking the Funicular Tunnel mouth with snow, so there maybe some hefty shovelling jobs required.
Watch the webcams on Friday, check out the latest mountain forecasts tomorrow night and then it's turn up and see what happened overnight on Saturday! Today's photos from H11lly and Andrew R, there are more in the Public Reports and Forum.
