The hottest day of the year and while the thermometer at the base station got a bit carried away in the sunlight, Aboyne to the east of the Cairngorms became the first place in the UK to bust the 21°c / 70°f mark for 2007. Shades and high factor suncream essential on days like these.
Snow started hardpacked after overnight frost but loosened to give good granular spring snow, did chop up a bit late on with the Fairway getting a bit sloppy in the warmth, but the Ciste Bowl, Cas and esp the Traverse and 105 kept fairly good spring snow through the day. All Top Basin Runs complete and remain in decent nick, with 3 boxes, couple of rails out in in the Ptarmigan Bowl. Traverse/105 and Upper Cas also complete, but some walking needed to mid-station.
Headwall still seeing some action, but slightly more walking required now but still less than 5mins for a excellent if short run on good steep spring snow. Still plenty scope for high level touring to Macdui, thanks to boarderdownunder for additional photos from the tour.
